Height Requirement question

We are leaving for DLR soon and when I measured DS this morning he was at 40.5 inches (with shoes - he was 40in barefoot at the doctor a few weeks ago).

I know he likely to lose some height as the day goes on, so we'll be sure to hit any "big" rides in the morning. My question is, in your experience, are there any where the measuring stick is off from the 40 inch height requirement (by more than 1/2 in)?

I haven't promised him anything and I'm not interested in stuffing shoes (we'll be back later in the year when he'll definitely be tall enough), but I do want to have an idea of which ones will be iffy this time (although I'm sure that is all of them).

In my experience the height sticks are very different. For instance my DS was tall enough for BTMRR, but not tall enough for Splash - on the same day - one right after the other.

I would suggest that you tell your son that he "might" be able to ride it, but you'll have to measure to be sure.

Help him stand up straight and tall and all of that - but also prepare him for the possibility that he may be able to go through the line, but the CM's will most likely check him again right before you get on the ride and not let him on if the stick is a different height and he's not tall enough. That's happened to us, too and it is very disappointing for a kid (and his parents)!

Jumping Jellyfish is off. I wouldn't even try for it. The stick outside doesn't match the one by the entrance. And remember, even if he makes it past the first one, the only one that counts is the one before you get on.

Just make sure he understands that a ride is never guaranteed, and that he must stand straight and tall EVERY time he's being measured. My son had a disappointment at Star Tours (total CM problem, he was pushing down on DS), and even though it was very much unfair, it did teach my son to not take rides for granted! Even now, at 52" or more, he measures for everything.

As Bumber mentioned, sometimes the CM pushes down on the child as they are being measured, so you may want to pay special attention that they are not doing that to your son. We've had that happen with at least two of our kids, typically on Indy (including this past trip - when my son has already been riding Indy since January!)

Also, you may want to watch so that the CM doesn't kind of "push" your son's head INTO the measuring stick. I can't tell you how many times the CM's (again, usually on Indy...what IS it with those people?!!) knocked my son's head INTO the stick...a couple of times it even left a slight pink mark on his forehead. Finally, I started telling them before I would let them measure him, "Be careful with his head, he's sick of having it knocked into the measuring stick!"

My 5 year old is a little over 43" in stocking feet - so quite a bit above the 40" cut off for many rides. Will he likely get measured for all the 40" rides even at 43"? Is there a real likelihood that he won't make it on some of them even though he is so much taller than the cut off?

I kind of figured we were in the clear, but if there is variation in what 40" is , I need to prepare him!

No, he shouldn't have a problem, if he is 43". My nephews are 5 and are 44" and haven't gotten checked in a year.

My youngest is 43" with shoes, she still sometimes gets measured (she gets measured every time for GRR, about half the time for BTMRR, every time for Space Mountain). She makes it onto every one of them, but they do still measure her.

My oldest is 49" with shoes - she rode Screamin' 4 times this last trip - didn't get measured once!
