The last time I visited the magic kingdom, me and my dad rode on the big thunder mountain railroad together. We're not very tall, i'm about 5'2 and he's around 5'7. Anytime we went under one of the little tunnel like parts, (they're hard to describe, the rocks that go over some of the tracks), I looked like we were going to hit our heads, even when we scrunched down really far into our seats. Does anyone know the height clearance for this ride? Me and my girlfriend are going next year, and she is around 5'9, and I don't want her to lose her head! : )

She should be fine. My husband goes on it and he's 6 feet tall. I think it just looks like you are going to hit your head. They wouldn't build a ride without proper clearance. If people were hitting their heads regularly, there would be tons of lawsuits!

You're right. thank you! : ) It does make me wonder how low it is, since it gives off the illusion of hitting your head.

Definetly it's got to be an illusion that you're going to smack your head. Think of all the people over 6ft that ride it.

i'm 6'4" and ride big thunder mountain every time we visit the world...i have never hit my head although it dose give you the illusion that you are going to...
ride without fear...as said above, imagine the lawsuits that disney would be facing if they had people smacking their heads when riding big thunder mountian...

I figure there are no height limitations or there would be some indication before you get on. Imagine the sports superstars who have visited the WDW and emerged alive;) That "almost hit your head" thing is part of the fun:earsboy:

6' 4" DH always swears he is going to hit his head on all the coasters, including BTM, SM, and RnR. He hasn't yet.

As for people suing after smacking their heads.......it would be their families doing the suing, the tall guy would be dead.

My husband is 6'10" and has no problems with BTMRR..... well..except for his knees being squished....
haven't lost his head yet!!!

Before riding watch it for awhile--if tall people are getting on, but none making it down the exit ramp then you might have a problem... :teeth:

I'd think that not only do they make sure you can't hit your head but also they allow extra distance for people who might hold thier hands above their head. So while it may look like you're getting close I'd say there is at least 4 feet worth of distance between you and the overhead bit.

My ex is 6'7" and he never hit is head on any of the roller coasters although he always did worry about it on BTM...and he was actually warned not to raise his arms over his head.

The only ride he ever did get bumped on was HM. He wasn't being careful and didn't scrunch enough when getting in and whacked his head on the top of the car...and then while he was trying to recover from that...the cart closed on his knees. Poor guy, the CM and I were laughing so hard...it was the only time I have actually seen a CM break character there. And even with all that, he wasn't hurt.
