I am thinking about buying heely's to wear to the park (without the wheels). Does anyone know how thick the soles are. I heard they give you a lot support but I do not like shoes thicker than two inches. Does anyone know how many inches the soles are?

Heelys are not allowed to be worn in the parks. Unless you plan to take the wheels completely out...can you even do that?? I wouldn't risk getting there with them.

its not likely that they will enforce the "policy"

Heelys with the wheels in place are not allowed in the parks. However, you can remove the wheel and place the plug in the hole. Even if they provided all the support you could ever want, I could not imagine wearing Heelys to tour the parks. My daughter has a pair and they are soooo heavy. Personally, I think they would be awfully uncomfortable to wear for an extended period of time.

To answer your question though, the soles are about an inch and a half thick. The sole is very rigid and goes not have much give.

Of course each person can make their own choice.... I just wouldn't risk wasting my vacation time on a "maybe" they won't enforce it.

I would hope they would enforce it..... they can be dangerous.

Yes you can take the wheels off put plugs in...pretty sure I said without the wheels. I just heard they provide good support. I realize they are dangerous and agree that they should not be allowed in the part...if the wheels are present.

I know you said "without the wheels" but as I have never looked up close at a pair I didn't know if you meant "without the wheels" as I won't use the wheel part... or I will take them out.

Sorry..... like I said.. I didn't know if they came out completely or not.

The sneakers for the Heelies themselves are clunky. You'd be much better off with a sneak that has some spring action or even the new Skechers that have the thick soles like the heelies but with walking support.

I would not recommend Heelies. Yes, they may have good support but they are so heavy (even without the wheels) and are very awkward. I've seen children left and right in their Heelies in the park running into other people and then complaining later on in the day that their feet are sore.
I recommend some good long lasting supporting Nike's or even if you want something cheaper, get something you like and fits then get one of the gel inserts.

Maybe look at some skateboard shoes too - dc shoes, vans, etnies, etc. I don't like them, but that's all dh wears instead of sneakers.

If you're looking for a rigid sole shoe, try New Balance's rollbar shoes (have to go to a New Balance store or online). They're expensive (mine cost $115 a year ago), but if you need a rigid sole to keep your foot from bending -- I have arthritis in the bone plates of my foot and need to keep from bending the foot -- they're FANTASTIC. I made a trip to WDW a year ago before finding out what this problem was, and wanted to cut my foot off -- it really kept me from enjoying my trip -- I got the shoes in November, and this past March, we went back and I had NO problems.

Here is a link to the Theme Park FAQs on the official Disney World site:

And here is what is says you cannot bring in:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?
A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

* Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
* Alcoholic beverages
* Weapons of any kind
* Folding chairs
* Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
* Pets (unless they are service animals)
* In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.

Heelys wheels do come completely out and have plugs for the holes where the wheels go.

They are allowed in the park with the wheels removed.

They are heavey and the only reason I can think to wear them is to increase your height.

My son will be wearing them this trip to get him to 40.4 inches for the 40 inch minimum rides.

Sketches put him right at 40 inches.

I don't think heelys would make good touring shoes at all.

Every orthopedic doctor I have had dealings with (both DH and DD have some leg issues) has recommended New Balance. We all wear them and they are great. Most are lightweight and all of the pairs we've had provide great support.

Heelys are probably the single most uncomfortable shoe known to man. I had a pair and I think they are probably the closest thing to wearing Frankenstein's shoes you could possibly come to! HORRIBLE shoe choice for park touring, IMO.

hehehehe, that is exactly what came to my mind, big, heavy Frankenstein shoes:lmao:
