Heelys

Let's move past the search function discussion and concentrate on the OP's question. :)

Ok, banned items at the WDW:
Skates of any form (including Heely's)
Weapons
Illegal drugs
(Inside the Parks):
Glass Containers
Aerosol
Extremely revealing clothing
Swimsuits (except at the water parks and pools of course)

Items that should be banned at WDW:
Strollers with metal foot rests or any other similar bottom.

Ok, well that's actually all I can think of for now.

a lot of you sound like a bunch of old people to me.

I remember being a kid and that helps me get past some of things that might irritate me.

Like I said before, the Heely's are no worse than the parents running you over with strollers :confused3

Heely's are far, far worse, you don't see parents with strollers going at 6-7 MPH as a general rule, bottom line though is Heely's are against the rules, so please obey the rules, they are there for a reason. I would love to see everyone that walks through the gate with Heely's on get charged $500 automatically before being allowed to enter, really, strollers aren't near as bad as they used to be when there were more metal ones with sharp edges out there, heely's on the other hand those kids will run into anyone or anything at full speed. (Again a general rule)

Actually, I think the FL law states that the fine is $125 for wearing Heelys in any amusement park in the state.
My DD9 has Heelys and I don't mind her wearing them, but I am teaching her to use them responsibly and supervise her use. I don't want her to be the hoodlum that runs down the 80 year old lady in the grocery store! And, yes, there are places where she is NOT allowed to wear them, and she knows that when Mom says no Heelys, or no Heely-ing, Mom's word is law.

We were at WDW 4/7-4/11 and saw lots of kids with heelies but they were not bothering anyone most of them werebeing towed by a parent.

As much as it irritates me that these things even exist, and it's annoying that MOST (not all, dont' flame me) parents just let their kids run wild in them, the burden here really lies with the Disney staff.

They have no excuse becaue every single person has to go through a security scan and bag check before they enter the park, so the staff should be conviscating wheels at that point.

I was just there for Easter week---HEELEYS galore!!!!!! Disney may not like them--they might prohibit them--but they DO NOT ENFORCE their policy.
Every little boy and his brother had them on --cutting in front of you -doing their best to trip you. Might just as well bring in the skateboards.

Heeleys are dangerous, and stupid.

Thankfully, they haven't hit this part of the country, yet.

I saw on kid on Heeleys, and I got this temptation to trip him.

Would I have felt bad?

Probably...not.

*shrugs*

I see a kid like that in the parks, I probably wouldn't hesitate to 'tattle' to a CM.

Either that, or take the kid by the collar of his shirt, if he's almost tripped me, and ask him, kindly, where his mother is. *smirk*

Okay, I'm not that mean, but I wouldn't hesitate to say, "Hey, sonney-boy/girl, where's your parents?"

...they might prohibit them--but they DO NOT ENFORCE their policy...
Heely's are a liability to the owner and Disney, but when Disney fails to enforce their own policy and it results in harm to others, it is called negligence. One legal action against Disney will change their passive enforcement of their policy.

yep, I am so old I have to dust myself off

I have never seem an out of control stroller or one knock a person to the ground... I have seen kids wipe out or bang into people on heelys.

There is no need for them in the parks.

I was there in March, and I saw many kids with heelys, and the only time I saw something being said something to about them if getting on the fairy to the MK, they couldn't wear them on the dock, b/c they will hang up.
I would like to make a comment about the heelys though on a different said rather than having them or not. When I was there in March, I saw many kids that were staying right with there parents with them. Many were hanging onto mom or dad's arm and letting them pull them along. My request is this, if your kids are going to wear heelys, be courious of other people. I was practically run over by kids using their heelys, no excuse sorry nothing, just knock into you or trip you and keep on going. When I was there the park was fairly crowded and not much room to go running and sliding as they were. I actually saw one kid using his heelys and when as he was he was looking behind him, and actually fell over a stroller. the parents appologized and appologized, but thankfully there was no children in the stroller. Just remember to be courtious of the people around you. Sorry if I offend anyone, and anyone with a rebutle feel free, b/c I'm sure there will be some, but I'm sure there are plenty who feel them same as I do. Again I say I like heelys I think tey are really nifty, my niece and nephew love them, but you have to be sinsible with them. If there would have been a child in the stroller, it could have hurt them, and no one wants to go to the hospital when they are at disney.

On our last trip to Disney I saw the heely maniacs too. I don't like them at all for personal reasons. I have a handicapped DD. She has to ride in a wheel chair or stroller. Therefore she can't move to avoid a runaway heely kid. I worry when I see a kid wheeling towards us. But so far she has not been hit. After reading in another post I learned that heelys are banned by Disney. Furthermore they are actually against the law. With this in mind I wrote a very serious email to Disney operations about this matter. I recieved a very nice phone call from the Disney corporate director of guest relations. She told me that Disney was aware of this issue and were working on training CMs to properly deal with this nuisence. As with anything I'm sure it will take time, but I hope Disney gets this heely thing stopped.

We also saw tons of kids using Heelys last week and many rolled right past CMs but only once did I see a CM inform the child (whose parents were right there next to him) that Heelys are not allowed. But the parents acted as though they hadn't even heard the CM and the child continued rolling along :sad2: . And since that's a problem even Disney can't fix, I just hope the Heelys fad eventually fades away.

I noticed a lot of people were notpaying attention to CMs about anything.I saw a CM tell a couple that were walking around with lit cigarrettes to put them out and they just told the CM they were leaving anyway and it was no big so he shouldn t worry about it, and all he said was "okay then but be discreet ."

I saw people at shows that were told by CMs to move all the way to the end of the row that simply refused and the CMs just shook their head and walked away.

I know none of us including Disney want a bunch of confrontations ruining vacations, but if they don t enforce a few rules eventually a lot of people will figure out that by being rude and obnoxious they will get their way.

I don't care if I'm a tatle-tail or not, if I see any kids wearing them in the parks, I'll go tell a CM. If they do nothing, I'll get their name and give it to Guest Services at the front when I leave.

I say, good for you! :thumbsup2 So many just stew and mumble about problems...only formally complaining will let Disney know how we truly feel. I think, especially people who have been/seen injuries occur should write in as well.

Honestly, if a kid heelies into my child and hurts her somewhere that they ARE allowed, it is an accident and no-fault. But if a child heelies into my child and hurts her, somewhere that Heelies are "forbidden" without the rule even being enforced, then THAT PLACE NOT ENFORCING THAT RULE is somewhat at fault as well. I think that as soon as WDW pays someone's medical bills for an something that should never have happened, they will begin enforcing. Until then, writing on here won't do much but writing to Disney might.

Yes, I will start. As soon as I get home from clinicals tonight.

Last month our trip overlapped with that of our daughter, SIL and grandkids. On or about March 1, the kids and grand kids were in the English Garden where the British Invasion plays and they saw a teenage boy fall while on heelies, breaking his wrist. It's not like kids on these shoes were all over the place, but we saw one or more every day with no interference from a CM.

What has, literally, the 'World come to?

Used to be, when a CM told you something, you did it, no questions asked.

Is it really that hard to follow rules?

Or do we live in such an anarchy that we can't??
