I heard from someone that kids can't wear there Heelys in Disney World. Does any one know if this is true? I can understand for liability reasons if they are banned from the parks. But I wanted to know if this was a rumor or if it was true. My boys love their Heelys.

Heelys are not allowed in the parks. I read that they are being really strict about this.

It is against WDW regulations to wear any type of skates (including Heelys), however many people choose to ignore this rule and the CMs are not good about enforcing it. Please be prepared for this to start another debate on the the evils of heelys. There are a couple currently running on the DIS.

I emailed disney last month to ask them this and they said sorry, heely's are not allowed. I saw alot of kids wearing them though. My daughter is a strict rule follower and it was her idea to email and ask.
I didn't mention it to her but the ramps all over would have been awesome.

Kids may love Heelys, but not everyone else does. I am constantly correcting kids at my job about using them in my store. The worst was one a young girl almost knocked an old woman over because they were going too fast on their heelys. And the store wasn't even that crowded. So imagine a crowded theme park and kids on heelys. Bad idea.

They may NOT be allowed (and my kids were not too happy to see all the kids wearing them all around Disney World) but they are there-lots of them!!!

-most CM's tell the kids no wheels as they enter a ride, but I never saw someone tell a child no heelys as they wheeled their way down a ramp

No

There are a few long threads here you may want to read but acc'd to WDW policy they are not allowed.

Here is the quote from the WDW Official Website the bold is mine:

Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

My 9yr. old DD just got brand new ones from her dad. I told her right away to not even think about skating in the parks..........As a matter of fact, every morning, before we leave for the parks, she will be handing over her wheels to me!! I can't stand those stupid things, and I'll have not have one of MY kids acting like a jerk wheeling through crowds......just doing my part raising my kids !!! :)

Wow! You mean you teach your kids that the rules apply to EVERYONE?! :worship:

:goodvibes

When I was at POFQ, waiting for the bus one morning a couple weeks ago, I saw 2 little boys playing around in their heelies. My sister and I sat there, while I thought whether I should let the family know the No Heelies rule or not...I finally decided to let them know, so they wouldn't run into any issues from park CMs. They immediately got their kids wheels taken out. :thumbsup2

I'm not a fan of these shoes and would never allow my kids to wear them in large crowds. Lets just use common sense people! Not only could your heely-wearing child hurt someone else, but they could possibly hurt themselves. What's wrong with making them wear sneakers  ...or sandals, flip flops, crocs, etc   ???

Actually I saw in another post that the local government passed an ordnance making heelys illegal in any theme park. Not sure what the fine is.

a government law..what's this country coming to.

I understand that the Heely's can be dangerous and I wouldn't let my son wear them in WDW. But, can WDW do something about the people running with the strollers that are just as dangerous

They do ask people not to run. I know people get upset when government gets involved but usually they only do when things become a problem. If they didn't have rules, ordnances and laws to govern behavior could you imagine what people would try to bring into those parks.

If running with strollers got to be a problem (many people with heel, ankle injuries) you can surely bet they would figure a way to stop it either with enforcement or by putting a device on strollers making it harder to push faster then a walking pace. :)

Do people ever use the search function here, or is this just a troll?

If you don´t want people to post about subjects that have been discussed before you could just as well close the Dis boards. I´m sure it would be quite difficult to come up with a subject that has not been discussed before on another thread.
