Heelys cheap or a generic version?

ARGH!! My son whom I thought I was about done shopping for has just discovered these shoes and wants a pair! He is 7 and his feet grow fast so I really don't want to spend $60 on them. When we were at Disney over Thanksgivng we saw TONS of kids with these shoes on! So I am wondering is there some place where I could find some generic heelys? I figured that with so many kids wearing them maybe there is a way to find something similar without coughing up $60.00!

They have them at Ross and Marshall's sometimes. If you look at Pac Sun they have great sales too on them.

The best thing was after dodging them all week, the last day of our vacation we saw a kid run right into a trash can while using them! Dazed him a little, but serves him right. They don't belong in the parks, period. If you get them, make your kids leave them at home.

i saw some at ross or marshalls, can't remember which one. good luck finding them!!!

i agree with another poster...i hope anyone who gets these for their kids lets them skate around the house for a bit before they take them into a public place! i was at the mall the other day, and got run into by 2 kids with those shoes! they are really neat, but i would make sure to restrict when your kids use them...especially in crowded areas... for everyone's safety!

I'd steer clear (pardon the pun) of knock-offs. These puppies are much more dangerous that just-plain-sneakers, so don't compromise on safety by getting a lesser brand.

While I wouldn't go as far as hazreck, there is a lesson to be learned: Parents incur a very substantial obligation for teaching their children respectful use of Heelys. Failing to effectively control your children so they don't get hurt and don't disturb others is utterly irresponsible. Folks need to understand that the world doesn't exist just for them, and saying "kids will be kids" doesn't excuse failures in parenting. If you don't have the time or inclination to live up to the added obligations associated with your children having more ways to hurt themselves or disturb others, then don't let your children have those things.

My daughter has Heely's and the generic ones you have to push a button for the wheels to come out (I've seen em sold a few times at the carts in the middle of the mall) She seems to really like both of them.

They do grow out of them rather quick, my daughter 9, got her Heely's over the summer and her foot is already at the tip of them. (We actually bought them a size bigger than what she wore at the time)

My ds got his knock-offs at a flea market in Daytona Beach. I think we paid somewhere in the $20-$30 range for them. He has the ones where you push a button to pop the wheels out, or you can keep them in and wear them like regular sneakers.

I bought my daughter and another pair as a gift from buy.com for christmas. They were 59.99 and I used google checkout- they came to 39.99 each! Good luck

Just wanted to note - not sure if you know, but they run a whole size small! So if your son wears a 2, get him a 3 -

Try flee markets or mom and pop shop type toy stores. The ones I've seen don't look as good as as Heeley's but i don't see how they can be more dangerous.

I would be careful, my DD9 wants them as well, I said no. First of all they are not allowed at her school nor are they allowed at the Boys and Girls Club (where she goes after school). Basically kids are only allowed to wear them on weekends. Secondly, they are dangerous, Lots of DD's friends have had broken bones from Heeleys. I am not trying to tell you what to do, but just think about it before coughing up $60. Because on ER visit will cost more then that!

Heely's are on sale at Mervyn's this week for $49.99. The ad just came out today. If you received a 15% off coupon in the mail, you can bring the price down even more. If you don't find the size you need, buy a different size and then keep checking back to exchange it. That way you can still get the sale price.

I'd stick with the name brand so that your DS doesn't have to mess with pushing a button. My kids will go from Heeling to walking to heeling back and forth. I couldn't imagine them having to push a button each time.

Both of my kids have had them for nearly two years now (both are on their 2nd pair). My DS has 2 scars on his stomach from falls this past summer. They are not good for outdoor use because the cracks in the sidewalk and the little pebbles & stones can send a kid flying face first into the pavement.

They are not allowed at school, at Target, nor at the malls around here. Nobody has said anything at Wal-Mart to my kids yet, but they usually just hang onto the cart and coast along. My DD's friend broke her arm from a fall on her Heely's (she was in a Target store) several weeks ago. She just got her cast off last week, but it looks like the arm didn't set right.

There's a tutorial video on how to "heel" at heelys.com so have your DS watch that before trying them on his own. Be prepared for some falls at first, but once they get the hang of it, they can get around really well.

This is probably a horrendously tacky suggestion, but I'd see if the elves could have run out of them, have an IOU...and get them at after Xmas sales or pick them up on eBay for a fraction of the price (worn once after Xmas, kid falls, kid hurts himself, onto eBay they go). Then, voila, the elves came through.

I would think that getting hurt on these would be similar to that of skateboards, skates, bikes, etc....All a possibility, or are these more difficult to maneuver? Practice makes perfect?

I agree with you but it seems quite a few people keep there kids from anything fun because they may get hurt.
