Where would the cheapest place to buy this be? Can it be frozen? DH bought the family an ice cream maker where all of the recipes call for about 2 cups of heavy cream (along with other common ingredients).

Thanks!

I always just get mine at the grocery store....and grab the cheapest brand.:confused3

If you belong to Costco, I have also bought it there. I have no idea if it's ok to freeze but my guess would be yes, depending on the container.

I just get the store brand at the grocery store, it waws $1.99 over the weekend. That was for the small container, the quart was $2,99. It isn't available frozen.

I agree that Costco was the cheapest place to get a quart of heavy cream.
At the end of the cost spectrum:
In case anyone's trying to save themselves a last minute trip to the store, I just bought a cup of shelf-stable whipping cream at Trader Joe's. I think it was 1.99, which is steep, but I figure it will be saving me time and money when I have that moment of panic just before guests arrive. It's sitting on my pantry shelf next to the shelf stable milk I pick up every fall so that I won't have to run to the store when snow is forecast.

I was looking for heavy cream today to make quiche with our leftover ham. Our Kroger was sold out. I'm going to try to sub half n half and hopefully it will work.

Half and Half should work fine in your quiche. I use half and half a lot in cooking as I always have it on hand for my coffee addiction!

OP: I second heavy cream from Costco or if you have a discount grocery like food 4 less that has a lot of large, industrial sizes. You can freeze heavy cream. I do not notice much of a difference. Also I would try a batch with half and half for less fat content. It has always worked for me! (Google some ice cream recipes) My first ice cream maker many moons ago always required a egg custard to be made and refrigerated ahead of time! Yea, not too spontaneous! I think I made two batches! The new ice cream makers are much more user friendly! Have fun, my kids love the one we have and make it by themselves often!

My quiche recipe actually calls for half n half. It should be fine
