Heathrow

Hi All,
My family and I will be flying Virgin Atlantic (best airline in the world!!) from Boston to Iran this summer and will have an 8 hour lay over in Heathrow. Do you think we would be able to amuse ourselves in Heathrow for that long or would we be better off going into London. Also, are there any good restaurants in Heathrow?

Check out Heathrow's website for shopping and eating places. It is a big airport and you probably could while away 8 hours there, but I'm not sure that I'd want to.

Have you got 8 hours between touch-down and take-off? By the time you've allowed for whatever you need to do in the airport and the time to get into London and back, you might not have time to do anything much.

I don't think I would leave the airport - although it's pretty boring to be hanging around an airport for 8 hours - it's quite a long way into the City, and I would be quite worried about getting back in time.

Also, if you are between 2 international flights, you will be in international 'land' in the airport, for want of a better word, but if you want to go into the city, you will need to clear customs and immigration to get out of the airport, and then security etc to get back in. All of which takes an a long time.

I think I would do some shopping (Good shops at Heathrow ) have a nice meal, and maybe think about an executive lounge? I think you can pay for a one-day entrance into them, See www.holiday-extras.co.uk

yep you can indeed pay for a single day admission to an airport lounge but you will need to check which terminal you will be arriving at and that the loung is airside ie. before customs.
