My Brunch - A Meal of a Lifetime

For those of you who read my DR, I apologize for some repetitiveness here - it is hard to report about a cruise without dedicating posts to food!

For anyone who would like even more pictures and details about this incredible dining experience, please visit my dining review - there is a link in my signature, and you can find the Remy updates linked on the first page.

But before reading, check out my new ticker!!! :woohoo: I think I will try to post some kind of pre-trip planning update this weekend. Excited to have our Big Adventure in the works!

Soon, a few more people had a seat in Meridian. And then we were all taken into Remy. We were taken into the wine room first, where we were given a glass of champagne and a little plate of Jamon Iberico to enjoy while the chef told us all about the meal and the sommelier told us about the champagne pairings.

The Jamon was just delicious and melt-in-your-mouth; it paired beautifully with the champagne (wish I could remember what that champagne was - it is not listed on my menu). It was so fun to hear all about the meal and wines we were going to experience.

And then servers appeared to take parties to their tables. I followed Niko to an absolutely perfect seating arrangement for a party of one. It was a little booth with a view of the ocean - not relegated to a sad corner but not out in the middle of the restaurant. I was thrilled! And Niko was amazing. He was aware of my gluten issues, and the chef was prepared. He asked me if there was anything that I wouldn’t enjoy, wanted to substitute, etc. I told him that I wanted to eat everything exactly as it was intended by the chef - I really wanted to stretch myself a little here and try things I might not otherwise in order to fully experience what a truly fine dining experience can be like.

My surroundings were amazing! My view:

My table setting - love the little dish of butter, salts to mix in, and check out that unbelievably delicious gluten-free bread with perfect texture and nothing weird about it at all.

I opted to do the champagne pairing, and my first paired champagne was a Taittinger Prestige Cuvee Rose served by the perfectly french sommelier. I got a kick out of her!

This restaurant is beautiful and full of details.

This was the booth fabric - do you see any rodents?

The chair backs - so cute!

But on with the food! The first course was a Sweetcorn Emulsion. It was the best “soup” I have ever eaten in my life. Really.

Next up was the Salmon, Caviar. This was a very lightly smoked salmon with exquisite accompaniments.

Next was the Sea Bass, Egg, Thai - perfectly cooked sea bass with crispy skin served over the best scrambled eggs ever created. I could eat this dish every day of my life and be happy.

The next champagne was the Pommery “Pop Gold” ’06. The sommelier had explained during the wine room talk that people want to be able to drink champagne while viewing the Eiffel Tower, but you aren’t allowed to just walk around with glasses of champagne (one would think that if there was anywhere you could, it would be France!). So this champagne was created - it comes in a small bottle that can fit in a coat pocket. Interestingly, the bottle can be shaken, and it will not fizz all over when the bottle is opened. I think the sommelier felt this particular champagne was pretty gimmicky, but it was fun!

Next up was Veal Tenderloin, Potato - this came with a different kind of potato (croquettes), but the chef made these tasty little crispy fried potatoes for me to avoid any gluten. Now I have never eaten veal in my life and had no desire to do so. But I was going to eat what was served the way it was intended to be prepared, and so I did. And this was good - I still wouldn’t order veal (I just don’t care to support how it is created), but I was so glad that I had just gone ahead and not made any substitutions or anything.

The last champagne was served - the Moet & Chandon Ice. This champagne is intended to be served over ice - which seemed very strange! But it was delicious and incredibly refreshing - perfect for a summer day!

And dessert - I can’t remember what the standard dessert was, some variation of what I had - but mine was a light hazelnut gelato over a hazelnut cream. It managed to be both light and rich at the same time, and it was not very sweet, so it was perfect for me!

I, of course, received these handmade yummies as well - an elderflower marshmallow and chocolate and lemon lollipops!

What did I think of Remy? Well, up until that day, this was the best meal I had ever had in my life. Hands down.

When I returned to our stateroom, our fantastic host had everything in perfect order.

Yeah, by this point, I was seriously wondering if there was a way that we could just live on the Fantasy!

Love the updates!

Look like y'all were off to a very nice start for the 1st day on the ship. You look so pretty for your brunch. And I love the bag....so pretty!

Your meal looks very good! I'm still going to go check out the dining review as well. I am a little worried about some of the selections for Ed. But, there are definitely some things he'll eat. I don't know about the veal for me though. When I was 17 & on a trip in Europe, I refused to eat veal. I just couldn't do it. Thankfully, I had packed myself a granola bar with me. Haha!!

What a wonderful meal, the table's setting is so relaxing.

I'm like you about the veal, I've never had it just due to what it is, I don't know if I would be brave enough to try it.

The gelato looks heavenly. Wouldn't it be nice to have your bed made every morning and turned down in the evening? They need to create a fairy for that! :rotfl2:

What a wonderful appearing meal. All the champagne varieties looked quite tasty.
I have to agree with you about veal. My DH worked a veal farm when he was in high school and after telling me how they raise them in crates where they can't hardly move, I made the same decision you have. I don't need to eat it. There are plenty of other things I can eat-like noodles! ;)

Willow's Valentine's outfit is adorable! I love it!

I love your dress and your bag for the brunch! Very classy :thumbsup2

The champagne brunch looks amazing! I am a very picky eater so I admire that you were willing to eat everything without substitutions (I am the princess of substitutions :rotfl:). I do love champagne though, so that looked great! And the hazelnut gelato looks incredible.

oooohhhhh, your brunch!!! everything looks so good (not veal, just can't do it either....) and I would LOVE to try those champagnes--especially the one over ice. when we got engaged my boss gave us a bottle of champagne as a gift. it was so yummy but I've never had that kind again. I just LOVE champagne.....

ok, I seriously had to stare at the picture of the fabric FOREVER! now I can't stop seeing the rats in it! love it! that's so fun, and different from looking for hidden mickeys.

Willow's Valentine's day outfit was adorable..you are very talented! You looked amazing for your brunch, the view from your table was awesome and the food just look incredible! I grew up in Southern California so Disneyland will always be my first love! Can't wait to hear about your plans for that trip. I have such fond memories of the Disneyland hotel...my sister actually got married at the Grand Californian and we got ready in a Disneyland hotel room overlooking Downtown Disney!

Thanks! It really was a great first day! It's just such a different vibe on a DCL ship, isn't it???

They will really work with diners to please their tastes. Next time, I will do exactly what I did this time, but I will express my desire to avoid veal. ;) It just doesn't sit right with me.:confused3

YUM! That dinner looks delicious --- and beautiful!
Thank you! It was a truly amazing meal.

What a wonderful meal, the table's setting is so relaxing.
You can't beat dining with a view like that!

I'm like you about the veal, I've never had it just due to what it is, I don't know if I would be brave enough to try it.
It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing for me. Next time, I will take exactly the same approach, but I will ask to do something other than veal. I'm glad I let the chef decide everything this time, but next time I will make that one small request. ::yes::

The gelato looks heavenly. Wouldn't it be nice to have your bed made every morning and turned down in the evening? They need to create a fairy for that! :rotfl2:
YES! Yes, it surely would! *sigh*

What a wonderful appearing meal. All the champagne varieties looked quite tasty.
Mmm- champagne. I could use some right now…...

::yes:: Under any other circumstance, I never would have tried it. But I made a promise to myself going into this meal, and I'm glad I kept it. I will do the same thing next time except make a request that I be given a different choice from the veal. :thumbsup2

Aww - thank you so much! :goodvibes

You know, when I was your age, I was insanely picky!!! There may come a time when you will be thrilled to try all kinds of crazy things! ;) The champagne was FANTASTIC though!

Mmm - I am a big fan of champagne too! One of my favorite things to do on vacation is get different champagne cocktails. So fun!

ok, I seriously had to stare at the picture of the fabric FOREVER! now I can't stop seeing the rats in it! love it! that's so fun, and different from looking for hidden mickeys.
 I love how they kept the place all fancy and under-stated and managed to sneak those little rodents in anyway! Disney at its finest!

Thanks - I was pretty happy with how her outfit came out.

Aww - that's so cool about your DLH memories! We had such a great stay there last mont. And I'm thinking we'll be there again in August! ;)

Hello my friend!

So- I read this last night RIGHT before I went to sleep- and all I dreamed of was that brunch we didn't do! :sad2:

We LOVED Remy- and I can't wait to get on another ship that has Remy and go back. The night we were there they told us all about it, it sounded wonderful- but we already had enough plans, and could not commit. It is something to look forward to for me- and you did an incredible job of getting me to that place with all of your gorgeous photos! :thumbsup2

Hiya!

Like you, I'm having a hard time keeping up on the Dis :upsidedow Anywho...caught up now with your TR.

So when did you become so crafty??? That outfit is adorable! I'm gonna tell ya...I'm impressed!!! Very nice work! Sewing is almost a lost art, unfortunately.

We had no idea that Remy was offered as a brunch, too. I think on our 5 night cruise is was only dinner - Palo was the brunch. I'm hoping that it's offered on our Fantasy cruise. Didn't you just love it??!! And you're right...a great meal!!!! Your table was the perfect location, too. I'm being nosy here....but was the upcharge the same as dinner - $75?

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!!!
Heather

Ellen!! You're back! I hope this means that you are adding updates to your TR - I need to get over there! :thumbsup2

It's good to have something to look forward to for the next cruise! The brunch really is a treat - I'm not a big morning eater, so it was nice to be able to opt for a noon time slot. I am just crazy about Remy!

Hi Heather! It's so hard to keep up, isn't it???

So when did you become so crafty??? That outfit is adorable! I'm gonna tell ya...I'm impressed!!! Very nice work! Sewing is almost a lost art, unfortunately.
Thank you!!! Really, thanks to our DIS friend Shannon giving me a little push, I taught myself how to sew (with much encouraging and help from her) last year. I love it so much! It is one of my favorite things I have ever taken on as a hobby. And Willow's a huge fan since her wardrobe is always growing. ;)

We had no idea that Remy was offered as a brunch, too. I think on our 5 night cruise is was only dinner - Palo was the brunch. I'm hoping that it's offered on our Fantasy cruise. It's very possible that brunch is only offered on the 7-night cruises. I will bet that you can snag a Remy brunch on your next cruise. :thumbsup2 I think the up-charge was the same - I don't remember for sure, but I'm thinking it was. ::yes::

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!!!
Thanks! You too!!!

Afternoon Characters and Formal Characters

Having enjoyed a truly amazing brunch, I headed out to retrieve Miss Willow from the club at about 2:30 - the Navigator showed that Pluto would be doing a meet-and-greet on the Sports Deck at 3:00.

I arrived at the club and went in search of Willow.

However, she was right in the middle of the Anyone Can Cook activity and wanted to finish (they won’t let adults stay to observe for obvious reasons), so I waited outside, reading my book, until it was getting close to Pluto time. At 3:00, we headed up to Goofy’s Sports Deck on Deck 13, but we had a horrible time finding it for some reason. And then more trouble finding Pluto. But suddenly he appeared, and we managed to be the second group to meet him. It was BOILING hot up there - I can’t believe they had Pluto do his meet there when he could so easily have been in a nice air-conditioned spot. As (almost) always, we enjoyed catching up with one of our favorite dogs. Willow thought it was hilarious that he kept licking her head.

Look even at sea, Pluto knows how to sign on his nose! (Seriously, what was up with ‘Ohana Pluto????)

After visiting with Pluto, Willow claimed that she didn’t eat lunch at the club. That was weird, but whatever. We went down to the pool deck (Deck 11) where the counter-service restaurants are (again, no charge over what you paid for the cruise itself). Willow chose some chicken nuggets from Flo’s Cafe and opted to add some cucumbers from the toppings bar, and we took them back to the stateroom.

Willow chowed. I took some pictures.

It was getting a little messy in our room.

We showered and got dressed and headed back out at about 4:15. Chip ‘n’ Dale were scheduled to be on the Deck 4 balcony at 4:30, and we couldn’t miss that! Remember, it was formal night - we really wanted to see the characters in their formal attire!

Chip ‘n’ Dale did not disappoint! Have you ever seen a chipmunk in a tuxedo?? Well, I highly recommend it. You will likely look this happy:

It’s like they remembered her from all those meet-and-greets at WDW!

We had a little time before Minnie was due to take over the balcony from Chip ‘n’ Dale at 5:00, so we had a seat at Vista Cafe, and Willow enjoyed a small brownie from their pastry case.

Soon, we jumped back in line to meet Minnie who looked absolutely divine in her formal attire.

Up Next: Even More Formal Meets

Pluto! I'm so glad you guys had a better experience with him on the ship. He's my favorite and I definitely would have been crushed if 'Ohana was my only meet with him. I also love the Mickey balloon paper in the autograph book.

I feel like chipmunks in tuxedos are worth the price of a Disney cruise :rotfl: SO CUTE. And Minnie's feather hat is fabulous!

That Pluto--he is one talented dog! (I'm disregarding Ohana pluto's obviously lacking skills)

Seriously--that's messy? You should have seen our room by the end of the week...:scared1: I never know how it happens because I always have good intentions....

I am LOVING formal night! How cute is Minnie?!? I love Willows pictures with the characters. She always has such a terrifically happy smile and looks like she is having the most awesome time ever!

Loving the formal wear character pics! So fun!

And that's a great picture of super happy Willow.

Her choice of formal wear is spot on. :thumbsup2

All caught up here! :woohoo:

Love your brunch photos! And I am glad that you liked it so much. You practically had the same meal that is served to everyone. The only exception being your bread and the dessert. The cream usually comes in cream puffs and is served on a plate. But the ice-cream that comes with it is so yummy! :goodvibes

Love to see more character pics too! I guess I need to get a move on with my TR too, so our days don't drift too far apart. ;)

How stiinkin' cute are all of those photos?? I don't think that I have ever seen pictures of the characters in their formal wear, which is werid - you'd think I would have seen them in someone's TR by now...:confused3

Willow looks very happy in all of the pictures, how nice to be able to grab a treat while you wait.

The cooking activity in the Oceaneer Lab sounds like fun. Do they usually have an activity like that going on? My girls would love that!

Christine

Well I am so glad you all found a good Pluto!
Willow looks in her element on formal night!
I love all the pics with the characters in their formal attire!

Oh and your brunch looked amazing!
