heartbroken and really torn update page 2

Binny, you are definitely doing the right thing by taking him back ASAP. Your kids don't need the trauma of being afraid of a dog in their own home. I was attacked (totally unprovoked) by a black Lab as a child and it affects my feelings about dogs to this day.

I know it's hard but it sounds like the foster mom will make sure the dog goes to the right home. There are plenty of dogs out there who are gentle and friendly to children.

Good luck!

Your children are too young to ever trust a previously abused dog with them. As much as it hurts, I would return the dog to the foster family, making sure they know the dog was not tolerant of the young children. He was probably trying to protect you from them.

With the ages of your children, I would get either a lab or golden puppy. I have seen first hand that both these breeds love children and the entire family and can put up with much "children abuse" when they are giving a puppy their love.

*sigh* his foster moms on the way. I talked it over with the head of the rescue agency and she said that given the circumstances he should g back and they would find a home for him without kids. He would be wonderful with a Single woman!

I was starting to change my mind for awhile and thinking I could give him more time... he went and plopped down on Kate and started licking her and playing with her, then not 5 minutes later he was growling at her again and she was just walking past him.
I put him outside for a bit then when he came in she tried to hand him his ball and hit bit her on the eye. :( it wasnt hard, just a warning, but enough to make me make the call to his foster mom.

Anyway, thank you all for your opinions and support I really do appreciate them all.

:(

sign me,
Still looking for a puppy...

Oh binny, I'm so sorry.

Is her eye ok? Is she? That's got to be scary for her and you. :(

I'm so sorry Binny. That must be so hard to do. Maybe next time you can arrange a visiting schedule so you know before hand if the dog likes kids.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie the perfect dog is out there waiting for you.

Sorry it didn't work out Binny- Go to the animal shelter and get a mixed breed puppy.... sometimes older dogs just have too much baggage to trust them with small kids. Actually you should NEVER trust any dog with small children..... a dog is just a dog.

binny I'm so sorry it didn't work out.

Have you considered getting an older dog? One of our dogs came from the pound, we got her when she was about 6 and she's never nipped or even growled at the kids. She does to the other dogs but never the kids. She jumps on them and trys to sit in their laps so some of the kids avoid her but she's very sweet.

Puppies tend to be more rowdy in general, our little Bichon Frise has nipped and growled at my 8yo DD. It was not unprovoked so I'm not concerned but he is still learning and doesn't always understand that she's not another puppy.

Maybe an older dog with a history around small children might be best for now. They tend to be more tolerant.

Kate is ok thanks for asking. :) She just wats to love everything... she is very forgiving, she's allready said " Teeko loves me! it was just an accident"

:(

I was standing right there when it happened.

well... he's gone now. Thanks again everyone.

So sorry binny! Lots of {{{hugs}}}

Your daughter sounds like and absolute sweetheart!!!! You'll find a little guy to share her love!!!!

I'm a Golden Retriever foster home mom (we're picking up a new one tonight).

You did the right thing by having him go back to the foster home. They will find him a home that is best for him.

There are plenty of dogs out there who want to give love.

Best wishes,

I'm sorry, Binny! :( I hope you can find a new puppy or older dog very soon that can get along well with your kids.

*hugs*

I'm sorry that did not work out binny.... I hope you keep trying until you find the right friend for your family... so many of them out there who need a loving home.

Hugs.

Aww Binny, I am so sorry this didn't work out for you. {{{hugs}}}
