Let me start by saying I have already told my father-in -law he NEEDS to go to the ER! He won't go!! :confused3
On Sunday (I just found this out 5 min. ago) he had back pains, chest pains, weakness, clamy, and was vomiting.
He says he thinks he is suffering from heat stroke or had a mini stroke. I think it sounds like a heart attack or something heart related. Any opinions??
He is still weak tonight. So much so he can't even take out his garbage or go to the store. He also pointed out that he has felt so bad all week he has missed 4 poker games
I am trying to find and print out supporting articles to get him to go to the dr right now. He lives about 30 min. away and we are going there as soon as DH can get here. Probably another 45 min or so with traffic tonight.
Thanks!

Does the pain subside when he lies down? If not, call the ambulance for him and meet them at the hospital. Better safe than sorry. :grouphug: Hope he's fine.

I agree, if he's still having problems now, he ABSOLUTELY needs to get in to the hospital.

call 911, I wouldn't take the chance that it isn't a heart attack. He may be upset with you but it could save his life.

He needs to go to the hospital immediately. There can't be any arguments. When you get there HELP him to the car and take him. I had to do this with my step dad recently. I hope everything turns out ok.

Sounds like a typical man to me. Sorry, it's true! As a former ER nurse I have my suspicions, and yes, he NEEDS to be evaluated. Today!

If I knew his exact address I would call 911 however he just moved to this location recently and I barely know how to even get to it. He lives in the middle of nowhere in a trailer park. I only have been there a couple times becuase he usually comes in to our house for Nick's baseball games. I don't think telling the operator to turn at the house where they have all the big rocks and drive until you see the wrecked corvette would help much :guilty:
I agree we need to get him to the hospital especially due to a family history of heart issues!! Just looking for facts to back up my arguements with him!
Thanks for the replies!

If he has a phone number the police can find him for the EMS.

Good information to know.

And if Ann's right, you can do that. And if she's wrong, you can explain to the 911 op what's going on and that he just moved and all you have is his phone number. You might even be able to explain how to get there and they might be able to find it?

Thought about that...he only has a cell phone I found out...GRRRRR

Does anyone know, can they track down where the cell phone is billed to? Or would that be a PO box and still no good?

Or could you go *with* the EMS and take them there by leading them?

The police have access to all GPS information of all cell phones. For an emergency, they can find his location.

Those were the exact symptoms my mom had when she had a heart attack. She was on vacation and wasn't feeling well for a week or 2 prior. Well one night she woke up and was vomiting and havng pains in her chest and heart. She thought she just ate something bad....she waited a good hour before she even woke my father up and then some to actually call an ambulance. Well they cam and she did have a heart attack and surgery and is now ok.

I was so mad that she didnt call for help sooner and she is very lucky to be alive.

Call an ambulance or police to at least go over to check him out. Or go yourself! Don't listen to him b/c is he is anything like my parents they are stubburn and you will regret calling. Who cares if he gets mad at you. Trust me its better to be safe than sorry!

Please let us know what happens. I will say a prayer that he is ok.

Up until a year or so ago, I had no idea that vomiting had anything to do with a heart attack. But, then my SIL's father felt clammy and nauseous most of one day and then starting vomiting. They thought it was food poisoning and took him to the hospital where he had a fatal heart attack while walking into the door. The doctors told us that vomiting is actually a classic symptom of heart attacks. A year later, my mother phoned that my father was having a little chest pain and vomiting and they were going to wait a day or two until seeing a doctor. I INSISTED she take him to the hospital pronto, where they verified he was indeed having a heart attack. He had an angioplasty and a stint put in within a few hours. My insisting may have saved his life. Please try to get him to a hospital ASAP!!

And, keep us posted.

hi all,
heat stroke or when having a heat stroke you will not sweat or be clamy, you will have red flushed, dry skin, not clamy.a mini stroke or medical called a (t.i.a.) or a major stroke called a (c.v.a.)has symptoms of slurred speech and weakness to one side and a weird smile when the person try's too.in nyc there is a law simply put if you life is in danger like your having a heart attack(m.i.)stroke or heat emergency you cannot refuse medical treatment, you must go to the hospital.they will place you in protective custody and take you to the hospital and yes hancuffed if nessecery.no your not under arrest.just to go to the e.r., find out where he lives and call 911.even if he does'nt want you too.

My DBF (40) had a heart attack and suffered the EXACT same symptoms!! GET HIM TO A HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY!!

Wow, what you learn on the DIS

My neighbor lady had the exact same symptoms. She waited around all day Sat. and her husband took her in Sat. nite. She died within 1 hour of getting to the hospital.
