hI,
I heard the Ohana restaurant at the Polynesian is a really good place to eat. Is a reservation recommended or are they pretty open?

I am also staying at the contemporary resort? Do I have to make a reservation every morning for breakfast is eating at the easier table service? (Not chef mickeys or anything)

You'll find reviews of 'Ohana to be widely scattered. Some love it. Others hate it. Either way, ADR's are pretty much a requirement if you want to eat there.

At the Contemporary, Steakhouse 71 should be an easy walk in restaurant for table service breakfast.

If you think you may wish to eat at a table service location each day I highly recommend considering purchasing the dining plan. Table service dining is quite oricy, especially on a daily basis.

Re: ADR, I would recommend looking in the MDE app for a few days to see what is available each day for the places you may wish to dine. It will give you an idea of how challenging/easy it might be to get a last minute ADR. Availability varies depending on where you might want to eat. Walk ups are not available at all locations.

I just looked for today and as @OKW Lover shared, Steakhouse 71 has availability for walk-ups but ‘Ohana is completely booked for breakfast today.

If you want to try it definitely make an ADR. They are harder to get at this place.

I’m the type of person that likes to form my own opinions on a place. So if it’s somewhere you want to go avoid the reviews. Plenty of people enjoy it as there’s a reason the place stays packed.

We got a last minute ADR in June. We hadn’t been in ten years but DD19 wanted to go. We enjoyed our meal and had a good time. It wasn’t 5 star dining but the food was hot, seasoned well and the atmosphere was nice. We then went and watched the fireworks on the beach. It was a great evening.

We probably won’t go for a while again as it is pretty pricey and i would rather spend that money on a signature. But we have no regrets on going.

The last 2 times I went i was able to snag last minute reservations just by watching the app.

Also you can order the noodles ala carte ( which my kids really like) at the lounge next to it.

Even with 'Ohana being hit or miss you should book your ADR as soon as your window opens especially if you want to eat in the 5:00-7:30ish time frame.

For Steakhouse 71 if you are more wanting to wing that you can likely do the Walk-up Waitlist. When we stayed at Contemporary we had no issue doing that for breakfast on the morning we decided to eat there.

Alot of mixed reviews, what used to be one of our favorite places to eat is now a place we wont be going to any time soon. It used to be fun to go there with my family as they played games and had people singing during your meal. Now its very expensive, the food is nothing like it used to be and they will have you in and out in about 40 mins... Its a shame that upper management doesnt even care its all about the $$$. If you have never been there give it a shot you might like it and yes you need to make a ADR

I definitely purchased the dining plan. We are staying 7 nights at Disney and there are so many table dining places we want to eat we will definitely run out of credits.

Since we are staying at the Contemporary we can reserve 60 days out from our check in date, for the length of our stay?
Example if our check in is on the 5th and our check out is on the 12th can I make a reservation for the 11th, 60 days before the 5th?

We were just at the Contemporary Resort! It was incredible! Best time ever. We ate at Ohana and it just was not good. You can see my review I wrote a few days ago. Steakhouse 71 is delicious and definitely much better food quality.

Have a magical time!

Are you planning to eat at a lot of Character meals or prix fixe options like Ohana, Boma, etc? Those meals are really the only way to come out ahead on the dining plan and also order alcohol with every meal.

We will be using the dining plan for the first time because it will be the first trip it will actually save us money. We have a split stay so we booked it for two nights due to having dinner at Ohana and breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. We'll also be ordering a cocktail with each meal.

Just wanted to put that out there because it isn't really made to save you money unless you work it a bit. I make a spreadsheet to figure out dining costs in advance to see if it is worth it for our trips. This time it looks like it should save us around $200 but that is the first time it has worked for us.

You should make an ADR for Ohana. It frequently fills up.

It would be good to make breakfast reservations for Steakhouse 71 if you know you want to eat there. Breakfast usually has walk-in availability, but you might have to wait.

Remember to include tips! But as you said, if you are doing heavy character dining and ordering alcoholic drinks, it may be worthwhile. But those $20 drinks for 4 people can add up fast and bump up they tip! It can be a $16 tip (at 20%) for just four drinks! Split stay is the way to go because your refillable mug will work for the second part of your stay, if the DDP is booked for the beginning of your trip.

Are you planning to do rope drop or early entry? It’s really hard to have a sit down breakfast & make to any other park beside MK. Restaurants don’t open til 7 & early entry can be as early as 7:30, depending when you’re going. Even the counter service, Contempo Cafe doesn’t open til 7. We find Contempo Cafe pretty good for breakfast. They have a good selection, including Mickey Waffles with bacon or sausage. You can even mobile order ahead of time, pick up & either eat at the tables there or bring back to eat in the room.

Ohana Dinner was... alright. pluses and negatives. I enjoyed there breakfast. my nephews loved the character but I was there for the eggs. and the pineapple bread.

As for steakhouse I have gone every trip since it's opened. I love that place and I'm looking forward to trying brunch there this year. I've heard it's great.

Like others have said get those character meals if you are doing the dining program. never makes sense when my wife and I look each trip but I know id we did it would be full of those places.

Steakhouse 71 is definitely a better breakfast stop for MK, but if your kids love Stitch, Ohana is worth it. Otherwise Steakhouse 71 for sure. It's a true gem.
