Heard its very crowded today

We were on property Friday thru Monday. Each and every park was way more crowded than anticipated. We did EPCOT on Friday (packed), DHS on Saturday (bad but not awful, left at 3pm), AK morning(crowded considering the rain) & MK Evening (nightmare) on Sunday, and MK morning (nightmare by 9:30am) on Monday. I think part of the issue was that Night of Joy was at MK on Friday and Saturday which closed the park at 7pm. Anyone there for the weekend that wasn't attending, headed off to the other parks and left MK for the end of the trip. We had a fastpass for SDMT at 2pm and we left before using it (we had BOG ressies, so had already done it twice in the morning) because it was so nuts. We left after lunch.

That's right...I wasn't even thinking about that. But yes, true.

When is the monorail closing? I thought that the work on the monorail was more of an intermittent thing than a flat out closure?

Ok...I just went to look...it's not an outright closure. Here's what the WDWINFO page says:

  • Monorail- through December 2015. The monorail is under refurbishment and may have modified service or routes. You should check on the day of travel the best option to use. Alternative transportation options may be available.

We were there last week, staying at BLT, and we had to take a bus to Epcot. The monorail wasn't running in the morning...the CM at the monorail platform said it was 'scheduled'. It took us an extra 40 mins to get to Epcot b/c it took 25-30 mins for a bus to Epcot to show up, we boarded and then went to the TTC to pick up more passengers. And that took forever as we sat behind lots of other buses there...So, yeah, just check the schedule ahead of time for the monorail.

We were in the parks on Labor Day weekend/week after and found it to be busier than expected in the early part of the week. We even skipped Epcot and AK early EMH to try and get lower crowds but still ran into surprisingly long waits compared to last May when we went and did early EMH.

Either a lot of schools were not back yet or parents had no issue pulling kids out one of their first weeks back(I'm sure some were home schooled too).

Many northern schools started the Tues or Wed after Labor Day. also, the Canadian schools and UK schools started after LD as well so there was a bunch of folks from the Northeast as well as Canada and UK that were there the week leading up to Labor Day and LD weekend.

We were there without our kids, and noticed lot of others there without kids also.

However, we do homeschool, and met many homeschool families while there. Also, saw plenty of families with really little kids.

I did notice a lot of people from the UK were there. They are usually easy to pick out from the accents. I even saw a South American tour group there and thought it was a bit odd to see them in September. I wonder if they do FP+. Do they have some VIP service where someone waits up at midnight just to make the same selections for 50+ people.
