Heard a tidbit last week

Could DVC be considering this? DVC at Fort Wilderness - only instead of a complex of vacation villas, it is a complex of campsites. ...
I think that there would be some demand for something like this.

I agree with Rence, I'd be interested in this.

Of course, I'd want a site reserved for tents that was at a lower point value than the studios so I might be out of luck.

Funny, I was thinking that a campground timeshare might be a cheap way for Disney to build another DVC by appealing to a unique market. They could convert the cabins to DVC and meet the demand for 2 bedrooms by changing some of the single wides to extra long single wides. They could also put the extra wide lots they will need to add to accomodate the new breed of RV's. Throw in some tent lots just to be democratic. Given the money they would get from FWDVC (cant call them villas) they could then renovate and re-open a down sized version of River Country to service FW & all DVC pool hopping while eliminating pool hopping to other locations. I'd absolutely hop over to FW because the WL main pool is so crowded.

People spend tidy amounts on motorcoaches these days...the same sorts of people who have the disposable income to buy DVC. To me THAT would be the business model that could make this happen. Plus there looks like a bunch of open, lightly timbered land that could be used...prolly swampy but would be good for any landfill that came from AKV.

My impression from the camping board is that FW runs pretty full. That's another sign it might be feasible.

I don't want to get this thread locked but the group in the second photo are clearly stuffing 6 adults in a 1 BR raft. And the additional wear and tear is quite obvious. Where are Dean and Deb & Bill when you need them

Please remember that RC was the first waterpark @ Disney, we took our boys there back in 97 and they loved it we were camping @ FW. We are both DVC members and RVer's and love being able to choose which mode of vacationtime to use. We can camp more than getting to Disney. Also FW is almost always full, they could use more sites and larger ones as RV's have gotten larger.

Serious question for you (really). Can a DVC Owner park an RV at a DVC resort (while staying there)?

TIA

As to parking I do know that you can leave your rv @ the parking lot at FW as I have seen them there a lot also I have heard others have left them there when stying @ other resorts.

I've seen smaller ones parked at the BWV - way back at the end of the valet parking area. I also recall that some have been directed to park them elsewhere - for example, at OKW, I believe you would be sent over to POR for RV parking. You need to ask when you arrive or if you have one of the monster RVs, my advice is to call the resort directly.

I have so many great memories of RC from trips growing up. I would love to see them do anything with it. If they were to put DVC in some form at FW, I'd love to stay there. One of my favorite things to do at WDW is the campfire at FW. It is exactly the same as when I was a kid. Maybe next they can put a DVC resort on Discovery Island.:)

While at OKW staying in Turtle Pond area Christmas week there was an RV parked that was taking up several HA place near our villa and I saw several others parked similarly in other areas. These were all big enough that they were parked across the spaces not straight in. I thought there were certain places they were supposed to park other than the general areas but apparently it wasn't enforced that week. They were there the whole week so it wasn't like they parked to unpack and then moved them. i guess the closest to a real answer would have to come from the resort manager - but we all know you may get different answers depending on who you talk to so don't know how well that would work either.

Sadly, I also have a serious answer.

You can park your R.V. at OKW provided it is less than 24' long and fits within the width of the parking space. (From last year's DVC quiz answers.)

My understanding is that these regulations are only for OKW and that you are not supposed to park RVs at the other DVCs. However, there are likely many exceptions granted on a case-by-case basis and I have heard about other exceptions for medical purposes if arranged in advance.

Interesting, because when we have had guests pulling a camp trailer we asked about RVs and trailers and were told they had to be parked in a specific lot at PORS. They had to drive over there, and we followed them with the rental car and picked them up.

I can't speak to your experience. It may be that they only have space for so many at a time and/or that you need to arrange it in advance. It may be that you have to know the policy to mention that your vehicle is shorter than 24 ft in length (I am assuming that your friend's vehicle + trailer was less than 24 ft).

I took a quick check on the dvcmembers website and it says:
"Recreational Vehicle Parking
You may park your RV on property if the vehicle is less than the width of the interior of the lines of one individual parking space, and/or the vehicle does not exceed 24 feet in length. You can make alternate arrangements upon arrival at the resort for all other RVs."

This is for OKW only--none of the others mention RV parking at all.
