I know this makes me sound a bit puritanical but what are the Parks like for healthy choices re food?

Obviously I'm not going to want healthy stuff all the time - whats the point of going on holiday if you're not going to treat yourself - but I don't want to eat rubbish the whole time either.

I try and be healthy most of the time and I know that after a couple of days of eating fast food I would feel like poo and my energy levels would die which is definately not want you want in a theme park!

So yeah- I'm thinking more for luches, do they have a good selection or am I going to be stuck with taking my own or settling for burgers etc??

Sometimes they are hard to find though. At a lot of the quick serve type restaurants the only healthy looking option was caesar salad which isn't that good for you and is mostly lettuce. After a few days of eating whole lettuces in these salads I had had enough. I did have a lovely chicken salad in Thunder Falls in Islands of Adventure but mostly all that seemed to be on offer in the quick places were burgers, hot dogs, pizza, toasted sandwiches, chicken strips which to be honest isn't my type of food.

There are places selling fruit and fruit salads on stalls in various parks.

Obi, obviously I have missed all the healthy places. If you could, could you let me know the best healthy choices for each park to eat at? Thanks.:)

This is what I have found, as I want healthy choices too,

Animal Kingdom - Flame tree grill, turkey sandwich on multi grain bread, fruit plate, mixed green salad with or with out chicken.

Epcot - Tangerine cafe, (lots of options with couscous, hummus etc), yakitori House, lotus Blossom Cafe (stir fry, noodle soup, chicken salad)

Magic Kingdom - Columbia Harbour House, Sandwich with soup, green salad, terrace noodle station, noodles, rices, salads,

MGM - ABC Commissary, (Cuban sandwich, noodle stir fry, Tabbouleh Wrap,)

Thanks wideeyes, I will make a note of all these for our trip in 26 days.

Sunshine Seasons in the Land at Epcot has a huge amount of healthy food and I also enjoy the open sandwiches at the Kringla Bakery in Norway at World Showcase the turkey or smoked salmon ones are nice :)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - I mostly eat fruit, salad or soup for lunch so it sounds like i'll be ok. The problem I usually find is that you can only have a wrap or a sandwich (don't really eat bread) or that the salads are covered in dressings. If you can buy fruit /bare salads at the parks I will prolly just do that and take a couple of cereal bars with me :)

Then I'll forget about the healthy stuff and scoff a nice big dinner every evening probably!

Hi Daysleeper,
I'm vegatarian, and find it quite difficult to find food/snacks. I tend to stock up with granola/cereal bars too, then if we are struggling to find something, I have a supply to fall back on!
Have a great trip!
Tracy

Thanks Tracy - I'm trying to think of these things before we get there so I don't waste any valuable time hunting for healthy food that isn't there!

Good idea for a thread. Thanks for the link Claire, sounds nice. I am off to have lunch now, feeling quite hungry.

I chose some of these options back in May :sad1: I'm not a dedicated healthy eater but I had lost quite a bit of weight and my diet had changed for the better and I didn't want to take a step backwards into old habits. That said I pigged out on some lovely three course meals when we had TS (I felt less guilty about this due to ms CS choices). I took a small container of food doctor seeds with me to the parks, as my DH and DD4 love them too. Along with a supply of bananas, cereal bars and other stuff we felt less guilty when we had the ice creams and other treats and it really kept our energy up.

I like you don't eat a lot of bread...a couple of places that look good (on paper anyway!) are Flatbread Grill (they do salads!) at MGM and Earl of Sandwich (they do salads too!) at DTD. I've been looking at places that do options for the whole family - DH carbohydrate freak, me - veggie/low carb/low fat, DS plain fussy and DD eat anything!!! The places suggested by wideeyes are on my list too! Think I might buy some scales...lol!
