I'm just curious if anyone else has a child that eats healthier choices on their own. DD5 LOVES vegetables. When we go to a restaurant, she never orders fries, she prefer the veggies or fruit. My older two daughters think she is weird of course. She prefers her veggies raw too. She also drinks diet drinks when she orders soda. All of this is by choice. I am not a healthy eater at all and hate veggies. Just curious if anyone else has a child that does this on their own free will. I'm not complaining of course. I think it's fabulous that she does this. I wish that I liked veggies myself. DD14 likes most veggies, but would never give up her beloved fries for one. DD12 thinks that chocolate is at the top of the food groups.

Although this is something that will keep weight gain under control, it's NOT a healthy option!!!!! The products used to sweeten the soda (instead of sugar) are not healthy, and I have always read you should keep children away from them.

(btw, this is no flaming or so, just didn't know if you knew this  )

So, what did you do to DD to make her love veggies??? :)

2 of my 3 are healthy eaters, so I guess that isn't so bad!

My DD11 has almost always made good food choices. She still likes her ice cream or M&M's now and then, but overall makes healthy choices.

My DS3 is also a good eater. When other kids are choosing chicken/mac-n-cheese he'll take a salad 9 times out of 10. He also eats broccoli (with a little ranch of course!)

I think it has to do with their individual tastes as well as what you serve them.

My DS13 rarely makes good food choices. He thinks cereal be the foundation of every meal! ;)

3 out of my 4 are healthy eaters by choice for the most part---salads, fruit, etc. Older DD hates veggies but loves fruit, although I do insist she eat veggies anyway. Younger DD is the only one with a sweet tooth so we do have some issues with that from time to time.

That is awesome! Sounds like you might have a dietitian on your hands! :rotfl:

Sadly, not one of my childen chooses healthy stuff. Now that they are getting older (15 and 11) I have noticed them branching out more--they *want* to order salads and they are tired of chicken strips at restaurants. But I'm not sure when I'll see the day that they order a sweet potato over french fries...This coming from a woman who loves kale, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, and all kinds of yummy veggies.

My kids both eat pretty healthy, by choice. Dont get me wrong, they eat their share of junk too! A couple weeks ago I was in the middle of a meeting, at my house. My 4 year old came in and asked if he could have a "salad" and mayo sandwich for lunch. He wanted a lettuce sandwich. :lol They both typically order apples or oranges rather then fries if we go to fast food. They eat their veggies every night at dinner- either raw or cooked.

DS is 12 and DD is 9 they both eat very healthy even choosing frozen yogurt for dessert but neither would touch a diet soda. Ask DD to put some diet cola in the fridge for DH (diabetic) and you'll get "ewww chemicals in a can".

They like lean meat, and 2 servings of veg with lunch and dinner as well as a salad. Our fav restaurants now offer assorted raw vegs instead of just carrots.

For breakfast they like omelets filled with vegetables. Or if we are in a hurry, bagel, cream cheese and a banana. Snacks are raw fruit and to drink water, with milk at meals.

Cereal is healthy. It is loaded with all kinds of vitamins and minerals. Even the sugar stuff is good as long as you brush your teeth after you eat it.

My kids are all pretty good eaters. We all eat our fair share of junk but given the choice they will order a salad before they order a hamburger. Snacks are usually fruit or veges. We all have a weakness for DH's chocolate chip cookies though.

My ds loves his veggies, too. He would much rather eat broccoli and corn instead of pizza or hamburgers. He also likes to have yogurt or raisins for a snack. Of course, he loves his M&M's too.

My DD7 is a healthy eater .She usually chooses salad over anything else and eats tomatos like candy. She also chooses yogurt over regular desserts. My DS who is almost nine only eats vegetables when he has to and thinks cereal and chips should be served at every meal.My DS who is almost eleven just likes food in general but does choose a salad and baked potato instead of french fries.

My son also often chooses fruit or veggies when we eat out rather than fries. When he wants a snack he usually asks for fruit, yogurt, or trail mix. Don't get me wrong, he does still occassionally eat junk (ice cream is his weakness), but I am actually surprised at some of the healthy choices he makes on his own.

I just don't see soda, diet or otherwise to be a healthy choice for a 5 y/o!

Wow! I'm impressed with the number of healthy eating kids! My boys do not eat well, but I try. My 4 year old probably would eat the best of the three, meaning he likes some veggies like tomatoes and carrots and loves about every fruit he's ever tried.

I'm hoping my older 2 will come around. I know I didn't branch out until college. At least I put fruits and veggies in front of them!

My kids always pick the alternate sides if they go to a fast food place... the apples, yogurt or oranges.

My son doesn't even like french fries. My daughter only likes grilled chicken strips, she can't stand fried food!

My kids both like sushi/vegetable rolls.

Tonight we are having quiche for dinner (cheese quiche) and they were both excited. (tomato soup as well)

Get your child off soda, especially diet. Why would she ask you to get that for her? And, if so, you should not. Have her drink milk or water, but not diet soda. It can really mess her up.

My boys are not particularly healthy eaters. My goal is to try and just get them to try new foods! They would never pick fruit/veg over fries and just getting them to eat fruit is a chore. Bananas/watermelon/grapes - that's about it. I can usually get them to eat a few veggies with dinner, but it's a real patience-tester. And it's not like I give them something else - they can either have what's for dinner or wait until breakfast. I'm not going to force them to eat, but they do have to try the family meal. Ehhhh. Such fun. At least they do like milk and juice, if nothing else! :sunny:

Yes, I know that diet soda isn't considered a health food. But, I figure it's a lesser of two evils. I rarely buy soda for the house, so she mostly gets it when we go out. There are times when she even orders water with lemon on her own. At home it's sugar free Kool-aid or decaf tea.

She also eats tomatoes like candy. I honestly think shoud could be a very lenient vegetarian. She is not crazy about meat. She would rather eat fruits and veggies. The other night we were grilling steaks and she wanted no part of it. She did ask for a hot dog though. (yes, I know that hot dogs are not a healthier choice. They were Ball Park all beef franks if that makes anyone feel better though. ;) ) She ended up eating two bites of the hot dog and finishing her baked potato and corn on the cob.

I have no idea how SHE become such a better eater than the rest of us. I'm just glad that she does it. Don't get me wrong, she still likes candy once in a while, but very rarely. She does love ice cream though. She really loves sugar free popcicles.
