Healthy dining options at WDW?

I just started Weight Watchers on 11/5 and am going to Disney World on 12/4. I'm going to let myself splurge a bit while there (hoping to balance with activity points from all the walking), but I'd like some ideas on where I can get some healthier meals. Not only because I'm on WW, but I'd really prefer to find some veggies for my son rather than fries with everything. We'll probably be eating a lot of counter service meals.

I am on weight watchers too and will be there in January. I am not sure how I am going to do that week, probably not so good, but I am not too worried about it. I know there are a couple of places in each park to get fresh fruit. I will be staking out these places since I love fruit and crave it.

when my daughter was on WW and she went with us .......she actually lost weight because she did so much walking......Now alot of the fast food counter service places have good choices for everyone. The resort hotels are now doing alot of veggies to choose from and also salads......I am on a new diet too and will try to keep within my choices too when I go in April.....Diabetic diet

A lot of CS places have fruit or carrot sticks or some other healthy option, often in place of fries. Here are some places I have found some good things at in the past:

MK - Cosmic Rays: I got a turkey wrap here that came with grapes and was really good. Noodle Station: I haven't eaten here, but I've heard of vegetarian options that would have lots of vegetables...just a thought. Harbour House: I've heard they give carrot sticks instead of fries as an option, and they have half sandwiches that come with soup or salad - not extremely healthy, but smaller portions which I know is part of WW.

MGM - Studio Catering Co.: grilled chicken wraps - if you get the kids meal, it comes with fruit as well, usually apples or apple sauce -- really yummy! MGM also has a fruit stand across from B&B theatre.

AK - fruit stands around the park

Epcot - the Land has lots of options that look better than most places, wraps, salads, etc.

I would also consider eating at mostly buffets for TS, that way you can choose which things and put less on your plate. It will be easier to watch your portions this way. I know I've read a similar thread on here before months ago that mentioned some other places, so maybe you could search and find it....otherwise, hopefully some other people will give more ideas. I think the key is just to think about it and watch what you are eating, don't overdo it just because you can!

Hey Manda! Keep in mind that if you are eating at any of the sitdown restaurants, make sure you inform the cm when making reservations of any diet restrictions. Then also remind them at the podium at check-in. October was my first trip as a diabetic and I enjoyed every meal I had (even at the Hoop Dee Doo revue). I ate VERY healthy, no potatoes, nothing fried, no sugar and still enjoyed every meal, including desserts. Just make sure you speak to the chefs. They will come directly to your table and discuss with you any dietary needs. It was great!

I can certainly feel your excitement and fear. We've gone to WDW in January the last two years and both times it was the end of WW for me. I had decided that I would just be a little "bad" and all the walking would ofset it extra points. I also decided that I would go back to WW after a couple of weeks of being home.

The worst thing was that it took me a least a month to go back and I continued to be "bad" that whole month.

We are going again this year in January and I will be doing things differently. I will count points each day. I will track everything that I eat. I will go back to WW the first meeting that is had after I get home.

That being said some healthy options for you are

1. The frozen bananas at the snack carts are great. I know that I found them at MK, EPCOT and AK. I don't think that I ever found them at MGM but I would bet that they are there somewhere.

2. The salads are really good all around all the parks. I truly did not feel left out eating the salads while the others had fattier options.

3. I would stay away from the buffets as I have to hard of time with the deserts. I would prefer the item brought to my table by someone else.

Good luck to you. Most importantly get back to WW immediately when you get home. Have a great time at WDW.

I noticed that Kona Cafe at the Polynesian had a wide variety of healthy food.

I try to always be on ww. When I vacation I have to think healthy instead of low fat. You never know what they put in there. Try your best and know that you will walk a lot of the food off. I have noticed that there was not any low fats dressings down there. You may want to look for some low fat salad dressing in individual containers to bring with you. Make sure that you induldge yourself ocassionally in small doses.
Tara ;)
