I posted this on the spa thread but wanted to post it so others not subscribed to that thread might see it as a heads-up as well!

I called the other day to book massages for January 29th at the Zahanati Spa in AKL and they told me they couldn't make the reservation until today. I thought that was puzzling but I called this morning to make the reservation and was informed that today is the first day of Disney running the spas as opposed to a third party. The lady who answered said it was her first day as well.

I made the appointments no problem but as a heads-up, the prices have gone up 25%! The Disney website shows the cost of an 80 minute massage as $140 and when I called today she informed me, without my asking, that the price is now $175 for an 80 minute Swedish massage. I got the firm pressure massage for my husband for 80 minutes and I believe she said that was $180. The price for an 80 minute firm massage isn't currently listed as an option on the Disney site so that's nice that they may have more options for customers.

I almost didn't schedule the massage but in the end decided to because I've already cleared time in our schedule for the treatments and it is vacation after all!

I'm not sure if all spa services have gone up in price as well but am passing on what I learned today about the massage prices.

I thought so too! But I'm a perfect example that I guess people will pay it! Although honestly if I knew the price up front I'm not sure I would have but I planned it into our trip based on the lower price and already had it set in my head that it would be a surprise for my DH so I kept it in our plan!

That's a pretty hefty price for a treatment at a non-spa location. I wonder what the prices are at the full service spas now?

I just checked the website and the Zahanati Massage and Fitness Center prices have now been updated on the Disney website. So I checked the Grand Floridian, assuming it's been updated as well, and an 80 minute massage is $200

I don't know what it was before Disney took over the spas but I'm guessing it's an increase!

We had been paying right around $120/$125 for a 1 hour (50 minute) at SSR under Nikki Bryan so the $135 isn't unexpected as prices tend to go up every year.

I'm not sure what the rate was on the 80 minute prior to the change over but I still think it was in the $175-ish range. :confused3

The only spa prices I was looking at were for the Zahanati Massage and Fitness Center at AKL. The prices originally listed were $140 for the 80 minute massage. The Allears website still has the old prices: http://allears.net/acc/spa.htm and it still has AKL listed as $140. But when I called they are now $175...the actual spas may not have gone up as much because they probably started out more expensive I guess :confused3

I think that might make sense actuallt because on the same link as above the GF spa is listed as $200 for 80 minutes, which is what the Disney site has listed. I just looked at the Disney site the other day and saw $200 for 80 minutes and assumed it might have been an increase as well. Maybe they are just bringing Zahanati up to par with the other resorts??

I wouldn't have batted an eye at $150 or $155 but $175 from $140 is a 25% increase, which was a little high to me. That and the listed price was still $140 so that made it a shock when I called and got something different on the day of the changeover. It does make a little more sense though after comparing the prices at other resorts.
