Also wanted to throw in that SW's credit system is nowhere as wonderful as Jetblues. For SW if you buy a ticket on Sept. 2010 for a flight for January 2011 and the price drops and you call on December 2010, your credit expires 1 year from the day you bought the ticket (Sept. 2010), so it means you have to book and travel by Sept. 2010, which is difficult for some folks. Plus the credits are all put in each individual accounts. I have been able to combine 2 accounts for one purchase, but that was the limit. I do not like SW's refund policy, though I do love their change flight policy.
For Jetblue it is the best. If you bought a ticket on Sept 2010 for a January 2011 flight and the price dropped December 2010, your refund/credit would expire December 2011, BUT, you can use it by December 2011 to buy a ticket for any future date. Plus when you as the person buying for a family gets a credit, they will put the entire credit under your name.
I just got a credit last week and as always it was easy. I bought 6 tickets for me/DH/Adult DD/Adult SIL/DGD/DGD and when I called because our price dropped by $15 each, the agent put all of the funds under my travel bank as they have done many times before, so now I have a credit of $90. Most likely will go to my January 2012 trip.
I have actually used my travel bank credit to buy a ticket for another family member under my trueblue account. I bought my adult grandson a ticket using my credits and it was not a problem. I've actually done it several times because he does not have a credit card, so I just buy under my trueblue account. I don't get any points for the purchase, but it will let me use any travel credits I have and I can track his flight as it will be under my "manage flights".
