Hello from a sunny and warm Orlando!

Just wanted to pop on and post that at LGW all the land side restaurants in the south terminal are currently closed. In fact it looks like they are doing more work there than the Fantasyland expansion in MK!

We stayed at the Hilton and ended up eating in their restaurant which was expensive!

Anyway I am going back to watching the monorails from our balcony now!
:goodvibes

Thanks for the info - this will be useful for when we travel via Gatwick in 3 weeks and 2 days

This happened to us too.

Being unable to get to LGW until around 8pm (due to funeral), having bag drop, then to the Hilton to check in, then back to the terminal for dinner and then back to the Hilton to check out there bar/restaurant I was too tired and stressed to walk back to the terminal AGAIN to go to M&S so it was £37.50 for 2 burgers and chips, the smallest glass of wine EVER and a pint of beer :scared1::scared1:

Will HAVE to get there earlier for our Jan trip - or its sandwiches and wine in the room!:rolleyes1

does anyone know how long this will be for?

If you've got time to pop over to the North Terminal via the train, I can certainly recommend Joe's Kitchen as somewhere to get a decent bite to eat at a reasonable price. Whenever we stay over the night before a trip, we always eat there, even if we're flying from the South Terminal. In fact, the only meal we ever have at the Hilton is breakfast the morning of the flight.

I got an e:mail from Gatwick and they said to get the shuttle to the North Terminal. There are two restaurants. I had already planned which cocktail I was going to have in Frankie and Bennies. The two in North Terminal are either Joe's Kitchen and the Globe. The e:mail also said that they could not tell me when they would re-open so possibly its true they won't as usually builders give estimates:confused3

This is exactly what happened to us 3 weeks ago, very little land side in Gatwick at the moment and there Web Site did not reflect this when we checked before going!

When we dropped my mum off 3 weeks or so ago I thought I read the sign as ''reopening Jan 2011'' but don't quote me on that. I missed my usual Starbucks for sure. Cafe Nero is absolutely NOT the same lol. So glad our next two flights are out of Heathrow.

For anyone staying overnight the night before and who likes chinese, try the one in the Sofitel over at North. We purposely stay there every time we fly from Gatwick even if we are departing from south for that hotel (miles better than the Hilton IMO) and that restaurant. It's just a hop on the monorail no big shakes.

Joe's is also pretty good in the North terminal itself.
