Heads-up for Those Flying South

We have trip booked for WDW 1st 2 weeks of Aug. Holding off on booking air for now. No idea if these regulations will still be in place by August. As most people should be vaccinated by August? All by September. I guess it’s too early to tell.
We will cancel if quarantine is still in effect as daughter works and can’t take more time off.

You can order this 2 weeks before you travel. You bring it with you. (It would go in my carry-on). You then do the test supervised online at the right time to meet the requirements. It is the saliva PCR test like the one we have here in B.C. (not the terrible (in my opinion) nose PCR).

I am not sure why the rapid test isn’t seen as sufficient given than we have a 14 day quarantine, unless the government is hoping to remove the quarantine requirement. Perhaps in favour of a PCR test before and after flying? Timing the PCR test (results in time for return) seems to be the trickiest part at the moment.

Rapid tests are available at MCO, but they don’t meet our requirement. I suppose you could still get a rapid test the day you fly if you want to do so.

You can still have Covid even after the tests so the quarantine is needed. Second the whole point of doing the test and the quarantine is to make it harder for people to travel.

The test will also prevent people from getting on the plane and exposing others when they have covid. There have already been reports of people not being able to fly home because they tested positive. That positive test meant people on that plane weren’t exposed.

The testing and the quarantine together should protect more people.

It should also deter people from traveling. I'm sorry but whatever is left of Mickey mouse will be there when this is over. STAY HOME.

I'm sorry I'm sick and tired of people not listening to guidelines. As well as the people posting ways to get tested so you travel even when it's advised not to.

Oh I agree with you. People shouldn’t travel. I’m just saying they didn’t do it just to make it more difficult. It does also offer some protection.

And yeah people should second guess any travel. Do they really want to be stuck somewhere if they test positive. At their own cost. That’s not even considering getting sick.

I have a law degree. Guidelines are not not laws. I posted about an easy way to test because that way people are more likely to do it. There is such a thing right now as people buying forged test results. That is actually bad.

I will absolutely post a way for people to follow the law.

Moreover, if there is an end date for this law, I have not seen it.

It could be that for years, even when the vaccine is fully deployed, that this test could still be required.

I will not tolerate being flamed by you for trying to help people follow the law.

I'm equally sick and tired of people trying to shame people. If someone WANTS to travel, they are going to do it. Period. They will not be concerned with your opinion and what you think. If it was illegal to travel, then they wouldn't.

Everyone just needs to chill out.

Just so you know you can get the test free at Maingate, about 5 mins from AK but I get what you’re saying. For us it’s just 2 of us and most likely just me so the cost is not so much.

Hi, is the test at Maingate, PCR test that would qualify for return to Canada as proof of negative result, and within 72 hours of traveling back. Thanks!

Yes, Maingate does both rapid and PCR so make sure to let them know you require a PCR test. I was just talking to someone that just returned home yesterday and they had to show their passport and flight info at Maingate and they received their results in 24 hrs.

I agree with being sick of people shaming others. If the government didn’t want you to travel they would ban it altogether, there are ways to do it however they don’t because they recognize that there are safe ways to do it. If a person is willing to do what is required then what the heck is the problem. The number of cases from travel is so low that you are more likely to get it from your local grocery store. If a person doesn’t feel comfortable going then that’s fine to, it’s what feels right for you and your family but shaming people for wanting to do something that’s where I draw the line. I’m going mid-April and I could care less what others have to say. I already paid for the test required to board the plane to go down, I will do the test 72 hrs before coming home and will quarantine as required. I’m prepared for all possibilities and that should be what matters most. The way I look at it is how is it any different then spending the day at Niagara Falls, the zoo or your local mall, only difference is the airplane ride.

Shame is not something one can do to another person. It's an internal awareness.

Here's the defintition "a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior"

So if someone is feeling shamed it is because you are becoming aware of wrong or foolish behaviour.

Aren’t non-essential shops in malls and the zoo closed in Ontario right now because of the pandemic? I live in NL. All our cases (I think we have five right now) are travel-related.

The grocery store/airplane transmission comparison is overused and inaccurate.
At YYZ in the first 14 days of 2021 there were 31 flights arriving that were found to be carrying people who were during flights or tested positive for covid19 once here.

There were only a handful of cases directly tied to grocery stores in the same timeframe here where I live.. among staff, no mention of any community spread.

This site has kept a daily running summary of airline cases since last March.

I thought the rapid test wasn't as reliable as the PCR test and that is why they ask for a PCR test to be done. I could very well be wrong but that was my impression from what I had read.

Yes but I meant in general. You can still go to Walmart, the grocery store, walking on trails, going to the park and so forth. The government has stated that the percentage from travel is 4%. Also my point essentially is that as long as you follow all the requirements, are prepared for anything then as long as you feel comfortable then there should be no problem with going. Yes there is an advisory and recommendation but no actual travel ban, which they can easily place by saying for example if you need to for essential purposes a letter from your employer is required, however they’ve also said what is essential for one person may not be for another.

And that is appreciated. Looking at that list the majority is from Domestic flights and goes all the way back to March 2020. I’m shocked there are minimal flights from the US and those seem to be from LA and Seattle, none from Florida at all.

The original percentage by travel might be 4% but those cases then create new cases through contact which is a much higher percentage.

My own concern about leisure travelling is that even if I follow all the rules, I can still end up making a negative impact directly as a result of my own personal enjoyment. If I get covid and end up hospitalized (even if I did quarantine when I got home), I would still affect hospital workers and take up a bed or beds that could be used for people with other issues.

I’ve been watching flights on Flightaware, i’m very surprised at the lack of direct flights being offered by the legacy carriers (AC, Westjet) all of this weekends flights from YYZ were connecting flights through either Newark NJ or Chicago.

^^^Edit for clarification
I just rechecked for today... This morning there were 4 direct flights from yyz/mco all early morning all now showing arrived. The rest of the days flights for today are connecting flights.

That is such a huge difference from most winters where you have your pick from 4 or 5 direct flights per day on each of those airlines. Especially on a weekend. 🙁

Any idea of cost?
