Heads up for anyone interested in doing the Richard Petty Driving Experience

I just called the 1-800-be-petty phone number to get a little more info on this because my dh has been wanting to do it and we wanted to include it on our trip in Oct. Well, it seems that they have some discounts going on and if you book by 9-15-04 you can get the rookie experience which is 8 laps on the track, for $199.99, it is regularly $349.99 if booked 2 weeks prior to your arrival and $379.99 if you book 2 weeks or sooner to your arrival, I am not sure if this is the only experience that is being discounted or how long the booking window is, but it is a tremendous savings to me and I just had to pass it along.

Ps: the ride-along experience is $99 so who wouldn't want to pay the $100 extra to drive?? I am so excited I can't wait til my dh gets home so I can tell him.

I CALLED TODAY TO BOOK FOR MY DH. I WAS TOLD THAT YOU HAVE TO COME THERE BY 12-31-04, WE ARE NOT GOING UNTIL JAN 05. I WAS TOLD TO CALL BACK IN OCT-NOV AND MAYBE THEY WILL HAVE A SPECIAL FOR 2005.

Oh Cool!! Thanks! We're going in October too, and this is awesome! I had planned to do this in May for DH's birthday surprise, and he went and spent $700 on a new guitar for his "birthday present." I broke the news to him what I had planned to do, and he was okay with it, but you could tell he was a little disappointed. So this will be cool. I guess I can call it his early Christmas present.

Thanks for the post. I called the 1-800 # last night to ask about getting this rate & was told that is required a "code" to use it. That is was an offer that was mailed to select persons, but if I could get my hands on the actual authorization code, that I could use it as well.

So, my question is how did you originally hear about this offer? And, of course, would you share the code? If you cannot post here, please send me a PM.

Ok, I called them back and got a little more info on the situation, and here is what I found out:

This is a code that was mailed out to certain residents about a month ago. The rate and code are only valid at the Walt Disney World Speedway, and also it is only open to Florida and Georgia residents. The gentleman I spoke with yesterday failed to mention all of the above and I am truly sorry for getting everyone's hopes up, You could however still call and try to get this rate maybe the next person you talk to will be the big mouthed guy I talked to the first time, So Sorry Guys. Some people you encounter just don't know how to do their jobs you know, I was really excited about this. I am so very sorry.

I tried to call yesterday and the woman told me the offer was only valid for Atlanta Motor Speedway, not Walt Disney Speedway. She was very adamant about it and not the least bit pleasant. I'm going to try to call again and hopefully will get someone more helpful. Thanks for the info!!!!

**UPDATE** I called today (after being unsuccessful yesterday) and was able to reserve for 2 people the rookie experience at Walt Disney Speedway for $199.99 each for mid-November. I acted matter-of-fact that I knew about the deal and wanted to book it. No problems! If first you don't succeed, try try again.

ok, now here's a silly question: How do we get to the speedway from fw if we don't have a car? Does the disney transportation system go there? Help!

Just be careful about being told you got that rate. Just as Disney does-- they can charge you the full rate when you show up if you fail to met the criteria (an address from FL or GA).

I asked them today how exactly you get to the speedway and they told me to go to the TTC and they have a van there that runs every 15 minutes to the WDW Speedway, also, I have heard that they will pick you up at your hotel but I am not sure about that.

Thanks for posting this!!! My Dad used to race when he was younger but a different type of car (I am so clueless on this stuff! ). He has ALWAYS wanted to do this and has no idea it's available at WDW. My mother and I have been planning for months to give him this as his Christmas present since we will be arriving on 12/26. We are from GA so either way we qualify. Quick question though, whe you reserve this do they actually charge your card? Just wondering if I should book it for him with my card rather than Mom doing it with hers so he doesn't see the charge show up.

There was plenty of times available for that week! I booked December 29 at 1:00 pm! They also have an 8:00 a.m. but thought that would be too much of a RUSH!LOL
