My 4yo DS has an issue with really loud noises. (We learned this the hard way last Sept. during the stunt show at HS.) He wants to watch Wishes at MK when we go next month, but he is afraid the fireworks will be too loud. Has anyone used earphones on their child to block noises? If so, what kind? Did they work? Thanks for any input!

Yes!

I have these for my four year olds link.

They were perfect for our trip in November. We actually got to watch the fireworks and they really enjoyed them!

What about ear plugs or regular old cotton balls. I know when my dad took my boys to the drag races last year they used foam ear plugs....look in your local drug store.

I bought Peltor ear protectors at Amazon for about $15 for my DD. The children of music stars wear these, such as Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter.

Try the silicone ones that are pliable. You just kind of squish them up and flatten them inside the ear over the opening. The other kind to try are the ones that are made for swimmers. They come in different sizes from real small to adult. If you have a store near you that specializes in swim stuff or someplace that gives swimming lessons(not a community ed type place but someplace like Foss Swim school which we have here in Minnesota) and sells swim suits and accessories. They usually have them and keep some of each size to be able to try and see which ones fit. Since they are designed for people with tubes in their ears they fit snuggly and when my son wore his he had a hard time hearing people talking to him, so they really muffle the sound. They come in a nice plastic carrying case too.

We are planning to get the Peltor ones for my ds who is sensitive to loud noises. He won't put anything actually inside his ear (like the squishy ones) but I think the Peltor ones should work out nicely.
And thanks to pp for mentioning Amazon- I didn't even think to look there for them.

What DizMom said, but you can get these in a kid size at Target. They don't actually go in the ear, they just smoosh over the opening to the ear. I bought them for my DD who has issues with loud noises. They are waterproof, too, if you have concerns about swimmer's ear at the pool.

We learned the hard way with DD that she's scared of loud noises, and discovered a solution right there at the POR gift shop - the WDW resort gift shops sell silicone swimmer's ear plugs, and those muffled the noise just enough for her to enjoy the shows without getting scared. She's 6 now and still wears her earplugs at the movie theatre and other especially loud situations.

We have some gun firing range headphones for our 5 yo ds (actually several pairs). We got them off eBay for around $8 w/s&h. DS has Sensory Integration Dysfunction & over-responds to loud noises. They're great as they muffle the sound just enough, but he can still hear a little. We use them all the time - actually used them the other night at Sesame Street Live. And ds thinks they're so cool as they're red, like firefighters wear.

My granddaughter (4 y/o) is very sensitive to noises. She always wears soft hear plugs on airplanes and at the movies too.

DS4 is also sensitive to loud noises. Will have to buy him earplugs for our upcoming trip.
:cheer2:

Thanks for your responses. I think I'll try the earplugs first in the pool to see if he'll wear them. If not, we'll get the earphones.

We have these as well and they are GREAT. They reduce the noise to a safe level (see the site/link) and are comfortable to wear. Babies as young as 6 weeks can wear them (if I remember correctly...ours aren't that young) and they are very lightweight to carry around.
