This will be my first DVC stay as an owner ( we did rent at SSR in the past). We are staying at BWV because of a conference at S & D. Unfortunately we won't have much time during the day because we will be at meetings, but i am wondering if we have an afternoon/evening free --

what are some neat things to see or do at this resort?
I love the little detail that most might over look -- anything i need to be on the look out for?
Any good nightlife there -- what is the atlantic dance hall like?

We do have reservations at trattoria al Forno for one evening.

No, don't go to the Dance hall, go to Jelly Rolls instead. The bar attached to Flying Fish, Abracadabar is great.

Try jellyrolls for night entertainment, it is an excellent piano bar.
There are "street entertainers" on the Boardwalk from 7:30 till around 10:00 pm.
They do have a steam room and sauna in the fitness room.

watching the sun come up over beach club villas.
I am sure we will be up this early for our meetings. I love when it is totally desolate and quiet -- We stayed at CBR one year and on my morning walk to get coffee I took some of the most amazing photos of the resort. Can't wait!!

What was really annoying is I took the camera the next day and the next and the next and it was cloudy for the rest of the holiday... I've got the memory though :)

Don't rent the surrey bikes unless you want one heck of a workout and the stress of having to not run over the pedestrians.

The cinnamon roll at the bakery is amazing. As is the ooey gooey butter cake bottom at ample hills if you want something super sweet.

Love jelly rolls. Also there are several good restaurants at Swan or Dolphin. If you play tennis there are courts along the walkway to Hollywood studios. We always bring our rackets but I'm sure there are some to borrow at the recreation house.

There are exits on the far ends of most hallways. We prefer, and request, to have a room at the most extreme end of the hallway nearest to Jelly Rolls in order to have the shortest walk to S&D via the exit facing the canal. Bonus if we get a room on a lower level ... but "more steps" on our fitness devices if we need to trudge up to the 5th floor via the staircases.

When entering or exiting the Dolphin's rear doors (those facing the Swan) -- be sure to watch the large water fountain. It acts like a weather vane; always walk UPWIND of the fountain to avoid an unexpected shower. Once inside the Dolphin, the stairs are often faster than the escalator.

The Dolphin has a buffet restaurant on the lower level that will make a fresh veggie juice for "pickup," if you are into that sort of thing. They give a DVC discount, too! My special-request recipe: beet, carrot, cucumber, celery, & ginger. Zippy! (Bonus points if they had fresh turmeric to run through their juicer -- not powder but the actual rhizome.)

Your conference will likely have lots of evening receptions -- check with the vendors to get invitations. Receptions mean free food or drinks ... "eat on the conference" has always been our motto! Some receptions will be in fun places, too! We've been invited inside Epcot for Illuminations viewing, inside Epcot for a "pub crawl," Ice Cream socials, etc. Of course, this depends on how much your conference vendors wish to make you happy. ;) Also, learn where your conference peeps favor for social events. Ours always started the afternoon before the conference gathering at the Big River Grill and partying the night away at ESPN. My conference peeps also loved Karaoke at Kimonos (Swan).

Plan to use the Boats to return back from the S & D to the Boardwalk. This gives your feet a break and allows you to feel a few moments of 'vacation.'

The Dolphin's internal fountain is a major social hub. Don't walk through there too quickly -- be sure to look around, see who is there, and "work the crowd." Be prepared to Meet and Greet!

EDITED TO ADD: Do not attempt to walk back from Dolphin towards the Yacht Club via the Dolphin's building contours unless you are really short on 'steps' for your fitness device. That is one long walk ... 30 steps, turn left; 30 steps, turn right; 30 steps, turn right again; 30 steps, turn left ... repeat ~5 times. Kinda annoying.

DO spend a lunch time sitting along the water near the S & D somewhere. Enjoy relaxing conversation with others doing the same.

If you have Jersey heritage, enjoy the Boardwalk's lobby. Spend some time at the fireplace staring with nostalgia at Lucy and other art/tributes/artifacts.

Drink LOTS of water -- you will be doing quite a bit of walking!

I know there are boats to and from the parks from the BC/BW and S & D -- are there specifically onces that bring you back and forth to/from S&D or are there just stops along the route to/from the parks. If that is the case then how do i know where the boats are heading or the route/stops it makes.

@bwvBound - Thanks for all the great info on the S&D!! I'm taking notes on all that we need to take in when there. I'm traveling with a co-worker who (if you can believe it or not) has only been to Epcot many years ago when she was young. This is her first real trip so i want to make it a memorable one for her(and me too). I can't wait to enjoy a few kid free days.

The National Kidney Foundation conference I am attending will have meals and gatherings in the evenings, but the food is usually lacking. We will have a couple of free evenings that are dedicated to hitting the parks!

You are correct, the boats run on large loops that visit the Epcot back gate, Yacht Club, Boardwalk, S&D and DHS. There are two lines on the S&D pier based on direction of travel. If you aren't sure which direction the boat is traveling -- simply ask. It is very easy to catch the segment that brings you quickly back to the Boardwalk. I assume this is the boat heading towards Epcot rather than DHS.

From S/D to BW boats go S/D, YC, BW. From BW to S/D boats go BW/ YC/ S/D. We have always found it quicker and easier to walk from S/D to BW, it's not that far and quicker. There are no boats that go just resort to resort so you have to catch them on the loop. There are lines at all three resorts that either say Epcot or HS

We learned the hard way that the Swan and Dolphin do not take magic bands, so bring a credit card with you if you go there. The Blue Zoo has some great drinks.

Ask for special 'conference pricing' on park passes when you retrieve your conference credentials. They typically offer a slight discount on 1-day/1-park passes and better rates on "After 4pm" passes.

If you are in decent shape, walk to the parks. It's faster and fun.
Also, check out the community center for free DVD's. That pool is much quieter as well.
Boardwalk To Go is a kiosk on the BW. It isn't tied in to the Disney system, but it has great hotdogs, burgers, fries, and other sundry items at reasonable prices.

Thanks for the tip! I have an AP and took advantage of the 13 month offer to cover my family trip next year. I had my co-worker buy 3 day tickets on UC. We do plan on skipping out a little early from some of the meetings. It is going to be real tough to get me to sit through an hour and a half lecture when i know that the parks are just a bus ride away.

I presumed that discount tickets (if offered to our group) would have been available on our website registration page - but they never noted anything or even mentioned them being available at the conference. Maybe because the do have many evening activities planned they are not encouraging people to choose park time over the meetings
