Ok, so we've only been back a little over a week but i'm already planning our next trip, lol. We are looking at two options:

1. October 10-15. We would do the Happy Haunts tour and the Halloween Party. We'd love to meet all the villains, and see it all decorated for Halloween, characters in their costumes, etc. We loved seeing it for xmas so much, so we figure Halloween would be pretty cool too.

2. June 16-20. This would be for my birthday, which is the 18th. We would take the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour and probably do a character meal for my bday. Weather would be a bit more predictable/nice...but I don't handle heat very well.

I figure they would be about equally crowded, from what I've read on here of how bad October is getting, so that's not really a concern.

On the one hand, it would be very cool to see all the special Halloween stuff (decorations, characters, treats, the party, etc). It probably wouldn't be AS hot. But there's a chance DH could be deployed before then, and it would cost more. Plus, it seems many of the hotels are already booked up!

On the other hand, being there for my birthday would be so great too! It would cost less, and there's a better chance DH would still be here. But, it could be too hot for me to enjoy myself, and no special things to see/do.

Any insight / advice?

Okay... usually when people are picking between dates, it's a matter or what would you prefer, but in your case, it's easy (for me anyway).

If it is were ME, from reading what you shared, here's my thoughts:

1. Halloween is great at DL and you said you like the villains, etc.... Great time to go. Weather, you can't control and I would not based a trip around it.

2. Summer would mean being there for your birthday. :yay: Fun!

However...
3. Twice you mentioned the possibility that your DH could be deployed if you picked the second dates.

While you cannot control crowds, weather, or your DH's deployment, if one set of dates meant I am almost for sure going to be able to have my DH with me and the second dates have a decent chance that I may not, decision made: The dates that make it more possible for my DH to be there. Go during summer. Enjoy DL with your DH while you two are together.

Easy choice, imho.

In this case, I would say go for the June dates for the reasons Disney Dreams mentioned above. Also, many times June is not as hot as October, believe it or not, so you might be okay there. Sometimes October can have big heat waves and June can be quite mild (even cool).

Also, even though Halloween Time is festive and fun - it's not like what Christmas is in terms of all-over park decorations. Christmas - which you have now seen - is much more thorough and extensive. Many people agree that you can go for long stretches of time while walking around DLR and not see any traces of Halloween. I think Halloween Time will probably be even bigger in 2012 or 2013, after all the work at DCA is finished.

But since this boils down to being able to be with your DH before he is possibly deployed in 2011, definitely stick with June! You'll get another chance to do Halloween Time in the future.

We were there in June last year and it wasn't hot at all - grey and coolish in the mornings and sunny and a bit warmer in the afternoon and then a bit cooler at night. I'm not sure if it is like that every year, but it was like that for us. I'm not sure which date you should choose, but just wanted to let you know about the weather in case that helps you make up your mind.

Whenever you decide to go, I hope you have a great trip! :goodvibes
