Do any of you run with a headband? I have longer hair that I always pull back, but inevitably I end up with flyaways that make me look like a mad-woman by the end of my run, lol! I don't care for running with a ball cap and have had no luck with headbands because they never stay in place. Has anyone tried Bondi Bands or Sweaty Bands? I friend recommended them, but she has never personally used them and I wanted to know if they truly stay in place without pinning. Any input or suggestions?

Haven't tried the bondibands, but I LOVE sweatybands. I also have long hair that tends to "fly away", but sweatybands keep everything and place and don't slip off at all, compared to other hairbands I've tried.

I run with a Headsweats lightweight hat and it's much more comfortable than a standard ball cap - not as hot. Just another option.

Everyone says that Bondibands work but I bought one last year and I couldn't even get it to stay put while I was washing my face. I definitely wasn't going to take it out running if that was the case.

I don't have any hair, but my wife who does swears by her Sweatybands. She bought her first two at the expo for the DL half last year and has picked up another 5 or 6 since then.

I LOVE Sweatybands. I too have longer hair, and my fly aways can be awful. I discovered them last summer at a running store and I figured why not try one. I've tried practically everything, but like you I don't do hats. I played organized sports through college and I was never allowed to wear a hat, and I just can't do it after all these years. This is the first band I've tried that's actually stayed in place, and the designs are really fun. I currently have 4, and might be addicted :thumbsup2

I have 4 bondi band that I love! I've gotten them at race expos (one at Flying Pig and 3 at Princes last year). Good Luck

OP - if you DM me your address, I'll send you a couple of headbands that I've made. They're like sweatybands or chickabands? It's just ribbon with velvet on the inside. The velvet "grips" your hair and they stay in place pretty well.

The ones I've made to train in for Marathon weekend are made with Mickey Mouse ribbon, black with red and yellow mickeys. They are about an inch thick.

Let me know if you want one. They only cost me about $1.50 to make, but I know they are sold for $8 and up at those expos.

ETA - I totally wouldn't mind sending you one or two for free, RunDisneyMom, so you can try it out before you blow some dough on the "real" ones. I am, by no means, a professional, or even GOOD seamstress - ha!

That's awesome that you've made your own! I keep meaning to buy a sewing machine to get a few little projects done and you've just swayed me more in that direction! I own a few SweatyBands and love them, and I always thought that they look so easy to make.... I'm glad to hear that you've had luck with them!

BondiBands never worked for me, but SweatyBands do. In fact, I got laughed at when I was at the hospital when DS was born, because my SweatyBand matched my hospital-issue gown. :rolleyes1 I swear it wasn't planned that way, but a SweatyBand was one of the thing I grabbed when I was rushing to the hospital at 3:00 am. :rotfl2:

I had the same experience. Guess my head isn't big enough! :lmao: They were pretty pricey too so I was a bit disappointed too.

I don't like running in a cap, but I buy one for each race I go to and just wear that instead. In the end, it seems to work better than any headband.

I use the headbands that are sold a walgreens or target. I have been wearing for years or I use pre wrap that trainers use to tape ankles. We used pre-wrap as head bands all through club soccer and college soccer. you can make it as loose or as tight as you need it.

That is so very very kind of you to offer! I'll PM you soon.

I made my own headbands as well for the Disneyland half marathon last year. These are a few that I made. Very easy and inexpensive to do.

Could you post a photo? I would love to make myself some.

It seems I'm opposite of most people on this thread. I have tried sweaty bands and it slides off my head. On the other hand, I love my bondi bands. The trick with bondi bands is that you have to wear them on your hairline. There are the fun lycra designs that aren't really meant for running in as much as they are just for fashion. If you try bondi bands, get the sweat wicking kind. Most people I know who say bondi bands don't work well are either wearing it wrong, or have the lycra band which is the fashion kind and not the athletic kind. Bondi bands are also a lot nicer on my wallet. I spent $18 on my sweaty band at an expo, and I got 3 bondi bands at the same expo for $20.

Another Sweatyband fan here. I have babyfine hair and these and Chicabands are the only things that stay in place and hold my bangs back (and I've tried MANY different brands over the years!). I also have shoulder legnth hair, but there are ladies in my training group with short hair that love these as well.

I'll try to post a pic tonight or tomorrow. I'm at work now :-0 and the bands are in my running drawer at home.

So cute!!!! I would definitely want to make myself something like that. Can you tell me how you made that? It looks like Disney ribbon, but I can't figure out what the "backing"is. Elastic? Thanks!! :goodvibes

I was going to purchase some Bondibands because I found a coupon code that made them a little cheaper, but I'm always nervous trying something from online without seeing it in person.

Those are very similar in style to what I've made (as I also make my own due to compatibility issues with major brands).

I have to agree with previous posters, the velvet works well at keeping things in place. For the princess, I also adjusted it a bit for the tiara and secured it to the headband for extra bounce-protection.

Here's the one I made (ignore the sweaty mile 12.5 forehead). It was colour-coordinated to match my costume.
