Karissa (7) was sick last Friday night. Some sort of stomach bug she was vomitting all night and then Saturday was a waste. She laid on the couch all day, poor baby, that is just not LIKE her at all she was utterly lethargic.

Sunday she woke up and was her normal cheery self.

Thursday we were on our way to school when she screamed " OWWWW my head hurts" then a minute later she says " Ok its all gone now Im better" I told her teacher to please watch her and call me if anything happened. Teacher said she was fine all day and played like normal. (Now keep in mind it was bright and sunny that day to so it could have been a sun in her eyes type thing)

Today at cheer we were in the gym which was pretty loud. She did fine for the first few minutes then she started crying that her head hurt again. We tookher out and she was still crying, We came home I gave her some ibuprofen and she fell asleep in my arms for about 15 minutes and woke up and while she is still a little out of it she ate a normal lunch and otherwise seems fine.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

I'm to the point where I am going to take her in. This has never happened before and honestly I am kind of freaked.

We get headaches all the time. Alot of the time it is dehydration. Try and hydrate her well for the next few days, she probably has to make up for her illness. Do it gradual.:thumbsup2

Of course I always check for rashes and make sure they can touch their chin to their neck.:lmao: Yep, lots of headaches here.

Any history of migranes in your family?

My son (who is 7) experienced a very similar thing. Yesterday when I picked him up from school, he was complaining of a headache and holding his head. I gave him ibuprofen when we got home and he went straight to bed and slept for 1 1/2 hours. When he woke up he said he felt better. He had no other complaints of pains or fever. Then at 1:30 this AM he woke up complaining of a headache again but this time he had a 101 temp. After checking his neck and such, I called his doctor this morning who told me not to worry :rolleyes1.After thinking about it, my older son had a similar thing a few weeks ago which turned into a 4 day sore throat, cold and ear infection! My DH runs a children's hospital and he said similar things are going around there too.

I agree, dehydration would be my first guess.

Does she eat any Splenda/sucralose? All the new "sugar-free" stuff has it now. It causes severe headaches/migraines in some people, including me. It really bothers me that they are target marketing it in kids snack foods now.

I hope she feels better soon!

Hi binny, This doesn't sound like typical headaches or migraines to me. My DS has had them for years and we have been with Neurologists, in the hospital, ER many times and he is currently undergoing a series of three cervical epiderals to try and get relief. The one thing that I have always been told by the doctors, read in magazines and at the docors offices is if you have pain that comes on suddenly and it either will not go away or dissapears and recurrs again suddenly that you should see a doctor to just have it checked out. I agree with what the others have said and make sure that she is not dehydrated but if you feel that you can comfortably rule that out and she experiences another attack then I would take her in.

I got headaches like that as a child - I recall saying "my brain hurts!"

Look up 'ice pick headaches' - it sounds like what your daughter might be having.

THanks.

She is runing a fever of 102 now so Im leaning more towards some sort of illness again.

She said nothing hurts now and its been 5 hours since she had any ibuprofen.

I will have her drink some more water.

No sugar free stuff here, I just watch how much of the real stuff they get.

Dh has Migraines but I have always attributed them to stress as he never had them before he started this job.

Binny, I see you are in Idaho. I dont know where, but Ill tell you one thing for SURE, in Boise/Meridian schools there was a TERRIBLE flu last week. Symptoms sound very familiar... but having said that, Id take her in, or at the very least, call your doc or ask-a-nurse. The sudden on/off of a severe headache is nothing to play around with. My whole family had it, me too, and I had a heck of a headache...but not sudden on and off. I hope all turns out well...
