hello all! i've been doing some reading on this wonderful forum, but at this point my head is spinning. i'd LOVE input specific to accomodations & activities (not the sanity or pessimism of the idea) for the following scenario:

my ex-wife and i have twins- age 6.5.
my ex-wife is remarried.
i am remarried with a 1.5 yr. old.
things are good between all of us and the idea has come up to take the kids for one big happy-blended-get-along long weekend. the twins bday is the end of november, so we thought november would be a cool bday (& and no doubt xmas gift) trip.
*we'd like to stay in different rooms within the same facility so the kids can go back and forth, but each family have their own time too.
*we're looking at nov. 3-7, 2010, nov. 24-28, 2010, or april 21-26, 2011- our travel time is limited to these dates.
*we're looking for modest accomodations in the park.
*for the nay-sayers; yes, it really can work...it's disney magic after all!!!!!!!!

i've been to disney 7 times when i didn't make the plans- this is the first as an adult planner...boy do i have new found respect for my folks who planned for me!

i'm hoping some expert ideas will help slow the mental merry-go-round of overstilmulation. thanks in advance for your ideas!

Sounds like a great trip! One thing you left out is your budget. There are 3 different levels of resorts with different price ranges. Do you have a total budget for the trip, or a breakdown of what you want to spend for the rooms(s)?

would say not the top level- middle is possible- lower is a definite! where do i find rates for them?

ps- nice pic :goodvibes

:welcome: to the DIS!

I'm so glad you found our little neck of the woods and are finding it helpful!

I think it's wonderful that your families can do this together - my parents divorced when I was 4; we got 1 family trip to WDW before they divorced, several with either Dad & his girlfriend or Mom and a few as a happily divorced family!

SO I have some ideas on accomodations - one thought is perhaps you might benefit from Adjoining (next to each other) or connecting rooms (a door in between. Maybe connecting might be a bit too much togetherness. you you could just ask to be in the same area. You can make these types of requests when you make your room reservation. I typicially list 4 requests in order of importance - connecting room, view of lake, ground floor, building 4 (something like that).

Disney resorts offer 4 levels of accommodations - value, moderate, deluxe and deluxe villa (like a condo). I have stayed at 2 deluxe villas and a value (Pop Century) with my family (hubby, son 4, daughter 2 and my Mom) and have found them all to be wonderful! *I will have an opinion on a moderate in Oct.* The kids have found something to love in each resort, the rooms were all clean and comfortable. We did 2 connecting rooms at Pop Century and it works beautiful for our family. To get an idea of what the typical cost of each level of resort is go to mousesavers.com. Then keep watching the codes & rates board to see what kind of discounts are available.

I'd recommend Nov 3-7 based upon the crowd calendar at Touringplans.com. The crowds should be the lowest of any of the dates you listed. You can see 30 days of the calendar for free but beyond that you'll need a subscription (it's under $7 for a year when you use the discount code in the allears.net newsletter. On that note sign up for the mousesavers newsletter too - they have the very best deal for buying tickets outside of Disney (if you are booking a package you'll need to buy tickets from Disney, but if you are booking room only - like if the discount is better for your situation- then you can buy tickets through an authorized reseller like Undercover Tourist as linked through the mousesavers newsletter).

I hope you'll came back with any more questions you have or feel free to send me a PM.

Have fun planning! :wizard:
