He Went During Deer Season: Sept 19th - 23rd Food Reviews

Your pictures are great! Thanks for taking the time to do the reviews....looking forward to the rest! :thumbsup2
Thanks!! :goodvibes

Akershus 4:50pm

I was getting thirsty and wanted something other than water. I wanted a cappuccino smoothie from Tamu Tamu Refreshments, but I knew that according to allears, Tamu didn't have them anymore. I didn't want to walk all the way to Africa to find out, since we were in Asia. So, I stopped at Joffrey's Tea Cart. I had a chai freeze (OOP:$4.50) and s-d had a very, very, small coffee (OOP: $2.50). They didn't accept the DDP. The chai freeze was great and exactly what I wanted. S-d said his coffee was fine. My only complaint is the paper straws. I would prefer they use the paper straws to help the animals, but I don't think drinks, especially this drink, taste right through them. I didn't use the straw anymore after the first sip. Of course, my cup also didn't have a lid.

After leaving AK, we headed over to Akershus in the rain. Because of the rain, no one was able to wait outside. This lead to an extremely crowded foyer area. We checked in about 15 minutes early and were seated about 20-25 minutes after our ADR time. The hostesses did seem to be doing the best they could though.

Character interaction: I thought all the the princesses were very nice. They stayed long enough for a picture, and Jasmine waited an extra minute for my mom to return so she could take a pic. Each princess was at the table for 2 minutes max. This was fine by us, but they didn't seem to be staying any longer at other tables. A handler did ask us if we had seen all the princesses and we had. I thought it was nice that she was making sure we didn't miss anyone.

Our server was good, not great. Nothing much to say here.

The atmosphere was fairly nice. I liked the decor. It was too loud although it was no where near quiet. Our table was way too close to the table behind us. A man at that table got up many times, and I had to keep scooting up for him. The family was completely obnoxious the entire time, so that didn't help things either. One of their girls was asleep and when she woke up, she had to order and all the princesses had to come back to her. Then her and another girl at their table began running about the restaurant. I didn't see most of what they did, but my parents were laughing to keep from crying at their antics. While I was at the cold buffet, a woman at said table pushed her chair in at our table. A couple of minutes after I returned, she (loudly) started saying, "What did I do with my chair?" My mom points too it, and the lady says, "Oh, I'm sorry." I found that very odd. I have no idea why she would put her chair at our table. S-d was happy to leave here.

Now the food...
Cold buffet starters:

Starting with the salad on the left and going clockwise:
Mixed greens salad with Disney vinaigrette - the vinaigrette was really good
cheese
bean salad - good, not great. It had an interesting flavor.
beet and apple salad - good, but loses flavor after a few bites
Peppered mackerel - this is down from the bean salad. It was delicious! I went back for more.
pasta salad - good, mom's is better
cucumber salad - fine
fruit - very fresh and good
shrimp salad - it was fine, mom liked it a lot better
smoked salmon - good, just like any smoked salmon
salami - under the salmon, good, a fine piece of deli meat

This plate has some of the same things. There is a better picture of the mackerel on the left. Mom also had chicken salad and potato salad which is on the right. She liked them both.

Entreés:

Mom and I both had the Bacon-wrapped cod. This was good. It didn't have much flavor. The bacon was underdone, so I didn't eat it. This picture if after I pushed off all the tomatoes. I'm very picky about tomatoes.

S-d had the salmon. He said it was a very good piece of salmon.

For dessert:
I had coffee. It was pretty good with a packet a equal (mom used all the splenda).

S-d had a viking coffee.

Dessert plate with rice cream, chocolate cake with raspberry sauce, and school bread. I wasn't expecting the school bread, and I know it gets a lot of rave reviews. I was excited to try it, but it looked bad. It didn't look tasty at all. I don't like coconut, so I thought I would try the inside. It had less than a teaspoon of cream. We all had a very small bite and left the rest. The rice cream was fine. The sauce was better than the cream. The chocolate cake tasted a lot like a chocolate bar. I wish it hadn't had the raspberry sauce on it. The sauce wasn't bad, but I'm not a big fan of raspberry and chocolate combinations. However, I did finish the cake.

Overall, the meal was pretty good. We would not eat here again as long as it's a princess meal, or if the food doesn't change.

3 TS meals: $96.99
OOP tip: $18
OOP coffee: $8.79
Total bill: $123.78

Hi
Great reviews and pics. I enjoyed reading them. Thanks for sharing!!:thumbsup2
Thanks for reading!!

On Sunday, we stopped by Auntie Gravity's Galactic Goodies.
Mom and I split a hot fudge sundae. I finished s-d's since he didn't care for it. He doesn't like soft-serve ice cream.:confused3 To my mom and me, these sundaes are second only to a No Way Jose. 2 snack credits: $8.08

Before we left Epcot, s-d had a Kir Royale. He didn't care for it. $8

On Monday, s-d wanted an after dinner drink. He wanted to go over to France. He had two wine samples. ($4 each?) and 2  Grand Marnier slushies. $8 each I stopped at Boulangerie Patisserie and got a Napoleon. I couldn't help myself. This pastry was amazing. The cream was out of this world. I've had one before and it was very good, but I didnt' this one was even better. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a pic until after we finished. 1 snack credit $3.94

Wolfgang Puck Express

We refuse to pay these prices w/o the DDP, so we wanted to try it out. We have eaten at a WPE near our house and were never impressed.

Rigatoni with chicken alfredo - good. My mom liked it more than me. It was good, not amazing or anything. It came with a mixed green salad. Mom enjoyed that more than me also. We also got frozen yogurt - swirl. I had mine topped with brownie, and mom's was topped with chocolate chip cookie. The brownie was better. My mom wasn't very hungry, so I finished off her yogurt. We brought some of our pasta home. I only had a few bites left, but my mom saved about half of hers.

S-d didn't want to come with us. He wanted to sit in the car while we shopped and said he would eat later. He ordered a sausage and pepper pizza. The bite I had was very good. We had one CS credit left and told him to get something to bring home. He chose the beef focaccia melt. He didn't eat it on the way home; we all took bites of it later. It was pretty good, too. I really liked the bread, but I'm not a fan of that type of beef.

Sausage and pepper pizza - it's a video. Mom had the setting wrong.

We stopped at Goofy's to use our remaining snack credit. S-d was in semi-bad mood and said he didn't want anything. I did convince him he might like the fudge. He got a piece of maple nut fudge. He said it was good.
Everything else was delicious as always.

I don't have pictures of everything we got, but these were my treats minus the pretzel rods. These pictures were taken after we got home.

White chocolate cookie cup - this was only good. I wouldn't get it again. I only got it with the DDP to try it, since I would never pay $3.95 for it.

I didn't put up the food totals for the last day.

4 CS at WPE: $82.33  I'm glad we weren't paying for that OOP.
All 9 snacks at Goofy's: $33.97 (appro.)

All food totals for the trip:

DDP would have cost $485.51 for 3 adults for 4 nights.

We ate $714.48 worth of food.

Had we paid for the plan, our savings would have been: $228.97

OOP tip: $87.52

Had we paid for the plan and tip, we would have saved: $141.45

However, we still would have spent less without the plan.

OOP alcohol: $112.98 :scared1: Glad only s-d was paying that. I'm not going to tell him how much he spent.

OOP food (and s-d's coffees): $28.93

Everything OOP: $228.59

That's interesting. We would have saved $228.97 had we purchased the DDP, but we spent $228.59 OOP.

Total amount of food and wine cost (free and OOP): $943.07

I hope breaking all of that down may help someone. I wanted to break it down to see if DDP would ever be worth it to pay for it.

Happy eating!!
