I have finally gotten around to working on some of the photos I took back in May and I am running into a problem with some blown out flowers and I don't know how to solve it. If you take a look at the flowers in the water at the bottom you will see what I am talking about. It would probably be easier to see if I posted the photo in it's original size, but then it would be hard to see the whole thing. If you pull up the Original Size in Flickr you will see exactly what I am talking about. Any tips on how to prevent\fix this? I have Photmatix and Lightroom 4 at my disposal.
Thanks,

PS I know I should have waited for it.

1st let me start by saying I am viewing this on my work computer. It is not a great machine and the monitor is definitely not calibrated for photography so its hard for me to tell correct exposure and color saturation.

There are a few things you can do. 1st I guess the easiest is select a different preset in photomatix or play with the sliders to adjust your image accordingly. If that does not work to your liking when its exported back to Lightroom 4 you can use the adjustment brush and "paint" any areas where you are a problem. You can then use the sliders to adjust that specific spot to your liking.

I dont know if this image was shot in "RAW" or not but what was the purpose of using HDR? From looking at the image it looks like the sun may have been behind you. If that was the case maybe you could just edit the original image to get the desired "look" you were going for.

Also, before sending the images through photomatix do you do any adjustments to the files? Last what was the bracketing used (-2, 0, +2)

Thanks for your suggestions. After reading your post I went back and played with the photo in Photomatix and although the sliders did not help the Selection Tool did. I had tried the selection tool before, but I replaced the flowers with the wrong source photo. Since the flowers were blown out I figured replacing them with the -2 or 0 bracket would make the most since, but I actually solved the problem by replacing them with the +2 bracket.

One thing I do not understand is why this only seems to happen when I have a photo with a bunch of Red flowers in a tight group. It does not seem to be a problem if they are spaced out or yellow, but if they are grouped tightly and on the Red end of the color spectrum they get blown out. Go Figure.

Thanks again for your help.

Nikon DX cameras are known for having issues with red.

Glad I was able to help.

Can you post the new version?

I just realized I fixed the wrong photo. It had the same issues as the other one, but it wasn't the one I meant to fix. I will fix the right photo in the morning and get it posted before the end of the day.
