We are taking my in-laws (I really like them, crazy I know:rotfl: ) for their first time in almost 30 years. We are planning on September hoping for free dining and I want to upgrade to the deluxe plan. That being said I wanted to get an opinion.

My immediate family has been 4 times in 6 years but we have never done any of the dinner shows. My inlaws are laid back, like country music and good food. I immediately thought of the HDDR but now I am thinking of doing Aloha too or instead. We will be there 7 nights so I can kind of space it out.

What do you all think?

We are doing the DxDDP and recently decided to do both shows- spaced out of course. Its a good way to use up the Credits on something fun.

my answer is "it depends" :)

how much time do you want to spend away from the parks... although the dinner/show is only about 2 hours long, getting to/from can be very time consuming and basically, it consumes an entire evening...

for us, because we've been every year for the last bunch of years and are always looking for fun new stuff, while still enjoying our faves, we are planning to do the DxDDP and both shows as it's been 8 years since we went to SoA (therefore new) and HDDR is a "must do" at least every other trip!

hope that helps! :)

HDDR: Indoor show, old-fashioned type of show with old-time costumes and vaudeville type performance, food is fried chicken, smoked BBQ pork ribs, corn, baked beans, tossed green salad, fresh baked bread and strawberry shortcake. I liked both the show and the food but our daughter who was 5 at the time did not care for either.

SOA: Outdoor show (tables are under covered area), show is lots of dancing, fire twirling, song/dance numbers, cast is mostly younger. Food is tropical mixed greens with mango poppyseed dressing, pineapple coconut bread, sweet golden pineapple, Island BBQ pork ribs, Lanoi roasted chicken, Polynesian rice, fresh seasonal veggies and Kilauea Volcano Delight Dessert.

If you can do both show, I would do that. Plan the SOA show for a day you are at the Magic Kingdom and you can just take the monorail over to the Poly for the show and then back to the MK.

With the DDP you can only get Category 2 or 3 seating for the shows. Category 2 are decent seats but in my opinion, Category 3 seating at both shows is pretty bad especially given that you are paying 2 TS credits for it. For either show, try to book ASAP to get the available Category 2 seats to make the credits worth using.

Thanks for all the input. Interestingly enough, my inlaws have talked about bringing their camper too so it looks HDDR is a definite. Now I just have to decide on Aloha as a possibility later in the week.

Although I voted both, if you had to chose only one it would have to be HDD. Such a fun evening.
