Which is more important, size or pixels?

We have limited space, so I cannot go over a 37" size-wise. Do I get a 32" with 1080 pixels (LG at Best Buy today) or a 37" with 720 (Panasonic Amazon)? I'm leaning towards the larger size. We have a Wii, but we play games, we're not gamers. By the time I pay sales tax, they're about $40 dif in price, both well rated.

Opinions?

We have a 720 56" TV and a 42" 1080. I think the picture on the 1080 is a bit superior, but the 720 still has an amazing picture. I'd go for the 37", I don't think you'll be disappointed. My kids are playing Wii right now on the 720 TV and it looks just fine.

With a size that small stay with 720. You wont see the difference unless you are about 6 inches away from the TV.

It is really going to depend on what your budget is. The 1080p is more than likely going to be more expensive than the 720p unless you happen on a good sale.

Assuming your going to be getting HD service from your cable or satellite provider, you're going to find that most HD television programming still tops out at 720p. I believe DirecTV just started broadcasting in 1080i, but that doesn't mean every show will be in the higher resolution. Most of the cable providers are still topping out at 720p. The only way you're going to see 1080p right now is if you get a Blu-Ray player.

General rule of thumb is that 720 is acceptable on 42 inch and smaller tvs. Go up to 50 inch and you would want 1080.

Done!!!

37" Panasonic Viera $499 from Amazon, scheduled to be delivered on Christmas eve, no shipping, no tax.

Woo hoo!

They have also done studies that show most people can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080

But what about the difference between 60mhz and 120mhz? We are looking at TVs and most of the super cheap ones are 60. We watch Football & tennis, play serious games (Wii, PS3, Xbox) and love Blue Ray action movies. Is 120 worth the price difference? We are looking at 40-42" (small living room - sit about 8 feet from screen)

You might experience motion blur with the 60mhz at 40-42". I would go to a store that has the 60, and see if you can get them to put on some kind of HD-quality sporting event. If you can see blur, then go to the 120.

We found that the 120 vs 60 was most noticeable when watching things like "Earth" where they have the huge flights of birds taking off and things like Nascar races where EVERYTHING but the background is moving.

We watch a lot of hockey, which would likely have the same problem (lots of movement, stationary background).

Our choice was a Plasma (which is 600Hz) but that is not a good choice for hard-core gamers, someone with a room with lots of light/glare, or really anyone that doesn't want to concern themselves with burn-in/image retention. We are childless and it was going in a dark room with some viewing angle issues, so it was the best choice for us.
