I plan to try to trade in Aug. 09. I would like to stay in Maui. I was wondering if both the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort and the Marriott Maui Ocean Club both have kitchen/cooking fac. in their 1 bedroom villa's. The trade would be for 160 points. Which hotel is nicer in your opinion?

The two new towers at Maui Marriott have full kitchens but I don't believe they have one bedroom units with a full kitchen (an owner can probably confirm). The new towers are called Lahaina & Napali. The older towers are converted hotel rooms and do not have full kitchen. The old towers are called Lanai & Molokai.

All of the Westin one bedroom units have full kitchens.

Here are some pictures of the Westin resort. I've stayed there 3 times. Lovely place:

I have stayed at niether resort, but from the reviews I have read the Westin is the better of the two. But both are excellent choices and you will not be disappointed to get an exchange into either resort.

We've stayed at the Westin Ka'anapali twice and loved it both times. There is excellent snorkeling right off the beach.
Another huge plus (in my opinion)is that the Westin has a shuttle that will take you to the Sheraton Hotel, the Westin Hotel, (Whalers village) and to Lahaina. The front desk will give you a schedule. Although we had a car, we used the shuttle to go to Lahaina. Parking is at a premium there, and using the shuttle was easy (and free).

Both are nice resorts, like comparing BCV to BWV in many ways. Overall I'd favor the Westin but for the new towers, Marriott likely is an even better choice. The Westin has the shuttle but the Marriott is closer to Whalers village, easily within walking distance. The older units at the Marriott have a mini kitchen, more than a DVC studio but less than a full. Same for all studio for Marriott and the Westin. My understanding is that the new units are the Marriott are all lockoff thus one would have the chance at a 1 BR there as well. At the present time I don't know anyway to specify the new towers, hopefully down the line they will be a different code. The only possibility might be to play off the kitchen differences as the description is different and II lists the older units and studios as only a partial or limited kitchen.

If you're serious about the trade, I'd list both for a 1 BR and hope for the best. I'd put the request in ASAP to improve your chances of success.

Wow, those studios in your pics make the DVC studios look mighty weak. Convection/microwave and mini-dishwasher? Washer/Dryer? I know we have the parks and ...yada yada, but jeez.

Awesome...So did this count as a two bedroom unit? How many people did this sleep (are there 2 sleep sofas between the 1 bedroom and the studio units??) How many points does this size unit use? I want one!:rotfl:

We stayed up at the Sheraton at Black Rock in '06 and walked past this property several times. I stayed at the Marriott WAY back when (before it was converted). The rooms were quite large and it had some nice views at the time.........I suppose these new towers cut some of that off tho?!
