Hawaii Turns away NCL and HAL Cruise Ships

Once the 30 day pause happened, no ships should have been getting off at any ports except for refueling. What were they thinking?

The cruise lines have been ordered to remove passengers from cruise ships. The cruise lines are trying to get their passengers off ships as soon as possible.

I think the last Disney ship, Wonder, only disembarked their passengers at San Diego yesterday.

There were many ships at sea when that decision was made. It's been a total cluster for cruise lines trying to find a port to allow them to disembark. I don't know about the HAL ship, but the NCL one was a 21 (22 allowing for the date line) day cruise from Sydney to Papeete, French Polynesia that embarked back in late February.

So to answer your question, I guess they were thinking that the world blew up while they were already at sea and they've been trying to find a safe and willing space to disembark their passengers ever since.

Yesterday and today. About 3/4 of the people are still getting off on the scheduled day which is today.

My friend's parents are on one of these cruises. It was a 28 day cruise (so it started in early February) and they are now on day 39 as they can't find anywhere to let them off. Luckily, there is no illness on board.

Somebody, please strand me on a Disney Cruise....like for a year!

The problem with strandings is they aren't what you want from DCL. You are restricted to your room, food selection goes way down. No MDRs. No entertainment save in-room movies. No character meets or trivia in a bar.

Just you and your travel party in a closet.

I wouldn't think that was all true, unless the ship was in quarantine. Food selection could be limited because it would be dependent on supplies. Entertainment would most likely be scaled back, dependent on what entertainers might be on the ship. Probably no character meets, but they might have trivia.

There is a crew member from Royal Caribbean on youtube. This is one of his posts.

Stranding means they didn't plan for it.

I don't think I understand what you're trying to say. No one planned for this one, either.

My understanding of stranding is to either run a boat aground or be in a place where you can't move to somewhere else.

Regardless, I think the poster was thinking about just being able to sail on a Disney ship for a year. Not really literal, more like daydreaming.

That ship is probably one of the safest places to be! Been basically a safe quarantine for 6 weeks!

That's exactly what I was thinking. However, they won't get the pleasure of having their body become immune to it due to infection, like the rest of us :sad2:

If I were on one of the stranded ships it would be just my luck for the Norovirus to rear its ugly head. FWIW we had to cancel a trip to Hawaii two mos ago, and a cruise of the British Isles in June, but both cancellations were due to health issues other than a virus.
