will be leavin for 10 days at the mauna lani on bi, anyone have any suggestions of fun activities and must do's?

1) Golf
2) Drive to the cattle ranch and watch the rodeo.
3) Helicopter ride over the volcano.
4) Visit a coffee plantation.
5) LOTS of beach time - great beach to wade into the ocean.

You'll LOVE the Mauna Lani! It's just beautiful. We spent much of our time just enjoying the pool, the scenic walks by the fishponds, having coffee/drinks in the atrium, and generally relaxing around the resort. But we did book a Circle Island Tour one day and were so glad we did. We got a great overview of the Big Island while not having to worry about finding our own way, etc. We did have a rental car, so we also enjoyed a few trips down to Kona, up into the mtns., etc. on our own.

If you do a search with my name, you'll find a lengthy trip report I did last year after getting back from the Mauna Lani.

Have a wonderful time! :sunny:

I had another thought. If money isn't too tight, think about having dinner at The Canoe House there at the Mauna Lani. It's very expensive, but the setting is incredible.

Be sure you stroll around the grounds after dark when all the torches are lit and the spotlights are shining out onto the waves. Truly a breathtaking and memorable sight! I have very vivid memories of the Mauna Lani. :D

Can't wait to read your trip report when you're back, so I can relive some memories of my own and hear about all your experiences too. ;)

rather than bump another thread I started...

Anyone have any advice on which resorts on Maui and/or Kauai are the best?

If you are using points, Kapalua Bay Hotel is lovely on Maui. Don't know what is available with points on Kauai, but Princeville area is the great golf, though kind of rainy. Poipu area has gorgeous beach and most sun.

njzieglers,

I'm from NJ also, and was thinking about going to Hawaii either next year or the following. If I may ask, what did your airfare cost? And where are you flying out of? I hope you have a fabulous trip, and please be sure to let us know how it was when you return!! Aloha!

Airfare from the east coast is a killer, that I remember from the last time we went. You can always check it on expedia.com.

Thanks all for the input. We will be sure to try the Canoe House, it sounds great. There is a big rodeo at the Parker Ranch on July 4th that sounds different. We will have a car, so excursions/daytrips should be relatively easy. Last time we flew from Newark to Honolulu non-stop, and then Honolulu to Maui. This time we're stopping over in SanFran, then into Kona. The fare is a killer at $2499 for three people. For anyone going to Maui, We would reccomend the Kapalua Bay Hotel, a beautiful resort. If the Mauna Lani is as nice, we will be very happy. Thanks again!!

The helicopter ride over the volcano is very nice, but hiking in the Volcano National Park is incredible! You can do anything from a 2 hour hike to a 2 day hike. That was definitely the highlight of our trip. Don't forget your poncho!
