Have you considered doing 1 week at Aulani and another week on one of the other Hawaiian islands? We always do 2 weeks when we go to Hawaii because the flights are long and expensive even from mid-America. I would not want to do 2 weeks on Oahu, but that is just my opinion. Each of the islands is pretty different. We like the Big Island because there are many different terrains there (volcanic, ranch, tropical rainforest, mountain and beach).

When we eventually get there we plan on cruising to the different island after a few days in Oahu.

I would say yes, my coworker just returned from two weeks at the Marriot Ko'Olina timeshare in the lagoon next to Aulani. They had friends staying at Aulani for one of the weeks. They had a great time.

Shoot I am going to be there for 8 nights (7 1/2 days) in December and already I am wishing it could be 10 days!

Some things on our planning list:
hiking Diamond Head
Aloha Swap Meet
Visiting University of Hawaii (our high schooler is visiting colleges)
snorkeling in Hanauma Bay
Polynesian Cultural Center (full day)
day trip to the North Shore
Kualoa Ranch tours
luau?
Pearl Harbor (that's a full day)

And that's not to mention all the fun places to seek out to go eat! We have been to Oahu before, but our kids and my inlaws have not. I want to have plenty of relaxation time at the resort so definitely one or two things on the planning list will have to go.

A week will be just fine at Aulani if you plan to see the rest of the sights on Oahu. If you plan to see volcanos or orchid fields etc, or "old Hawaiian" reality, then Oahu is not the island you want. We much prefer the Big Island of Hawaii and the "down home" Kauai to Oahu.

Oahu does have lots of must see things to do though as well. You can spend almost 2 full days just doing the historic things at Pearl Harbor and places like the Palace. Another day would do the Bishop Museum, which I almost consider a must do. Polynesian Cultural Center is another possibility as well as hiking Diamond Head. You can snorkle in Hanouma Bay, but you wont need to if you are staying at Aulani.

Depends on your family and what you like to do. We were at Aulani in June with another family (kids ages 5-9). We like to relax by the pool, but also have active kids. They loved the kids club, the Menehunie Adventure Trail, snorkling. We went up to the North Shore, but when we were away we felt like we were missing out on time at the resort! We were there 9 days, and I felt like we could have spent a few more days, but we were there to relax. If you are go, go, then you might get alot more done in a short amount of time and want to head to another island for your second week. Any of the other islands would be great. We plan to branch out on our next trip ;) Love my DVC!

If you plan to hike Diamond Head, plan to be there as early as you're able to. The crowds will be better the earlier you go, and parking will be better too. :thumbsup2

Definitely do some island hopping. Oahu would be fine for a week, but if you really want to relax and see some awesome sites make sure you visit the Big Island and Maui at the very least!
