Hawaii more expensive than WDW?

Seriously? Wow. You'd be shocked to know I come from a doctor's family. If you know any of my posts, I'm about as budget as they come.

Many people who don't even have jobs like to travel luxuriously (I've seen it time and again on the DIS and IRL) and many people who have well paying jobs are very budget minded (again both IRL and on the DIS).

I am very budget minded. I would rather travel a bit more frugally, and travel more often. I don't need a balcony or outside cabin on a cruise ship, its not the Titanic afterall. ;)

Having been to Hawwaii several times, I can not fathom hanging out at Costco and eating fast food just to make it a cheap trip. Might as well stay home. I find Hawaii to be charming and along with that comes patronizing local businesses. That said, I adore the B&Bs in Hawaii and I agree that car rental is very competitive. The ferry will be a real boon!

That is easy to say if you have been to Hawaii several times, but if it means that someone will never be able to go to Hawaii because they envision having to eat at the Four Seasons every night, budgeting is a good option. Half of the people I see at Costco in Kahului are pulling up in rental cars, getting groceries, snacks, soda or "adult beverages" for their rooms or condos. In fact, very similar to the many people who stop at Publix or Goodings before proceeding to WDW. Plate lunches are everywhere and there are a lot of regional favorites that are priced in the fast food range. B & B aren't always an option for large families and there is so much for families to do in Hawaii, on each island.

Thank you. I am saying this respectfully: I really don't even understand why budget is such an issue when the family lives on a doctor's salary.

:confused3

My neighbor is a doctor. He just can't get up and go and not worry about the cost of things. Not all doctors are millionaires, and even if they were, what's wrong with getting the most for your money.
