Hawaii in Feb questions

We just got a transfer to Hawaii going to Kaanapali Beach, Lahaina at the Embassy vacation resort. Is this a good place to transfer??? It's fri to fri week. Has anyone been??? This is for our 25th Anniv!!!

After getting advice from Dean and others, we have decided to give it a try. The time frame works out for us and while we understand that it may not be up to the standards of Marriott or Westin, we anticipate a great time anyway. See you at the luau!!

Just got back from 10 days in Lahaina/ ka'anapali. It was great. I can't comment specifically on that resort, but all the resorts are right next to each other and they all looked really nice. I did not notice any that made me . It is just such a great area. We were in a condo rental just north of Black Rock.

Just looked at a pic of the resort to recall. That resort was under construction as of March 2007. It is also slightly north of the main resort area if I recall correctly so I did not get a good look at it so my opinion is pretty useless. Sorry.

If you have to drive to get to a good swimming area on Ka'anapali- look for the free lots- there are alot of them, but they are small and hard to find. The best one is at the Westin. Snorkel right out front, walk down beach (to the left) about 200 yards for great swimming.

Let me add some info to that thread that I think is misleading or at least certainly different than my experience when we stayed there in 2002. Things could have changed with the change in management but they do indeed give exchangers the mountain/parking lot views. Most resorts assign units in this way for exchangers as they should. The upgrade fee at the time was not $150 total but $70 per day per unit so if this were important to me, I'd check with the resort directly if needed.

If you look at the sunset picture in that link above, we stayed at the Mahana which is the building (2nd building) to the far left in that picture. We had a two bedroom at the Mahana with an ocean view off the front balcony and our daughters' bedroom had a mountain view off the back. And I have to honestly say that the mountain view was breathtaking, too. We saw rainbows back in those mountains almost every day. I couldn't make up my mind which view was the best - the ocean or the mountains.

My posting is rather late - I was researching other Hawaii info.

We stayed at Sunterra (now Diamond) Kaanapali two years ago and have booked it again for this coming february. We loved it!! As others have said, comfort, beauty, amenities are in the eye of the beholder but my DH and I thought it was great. We had a one bedroom which had a good sized living room, big bathroom, more of a kitchenette/wetbar (no stove), and nice lanai. There was a washer/dryer on each floor. There is an onsite restaurant and a second cafe/bar poolside (try the lava flows). At sunset they had a little torch lighting cermony of the tiki torches around the property. The grounds were very nice and you could walk directly to the beach. It is all - the lobby and corridors - very open and airy. You could also wander down the beach to several adjacent resorts. I can't imagine that you won't have a great time!
