Just confirmened a Feburary 2003 week at the Marriot Beach Club Kauai for 160 points. One Bedroom kingsize bed & a seperate room Kitchen area. Disney just negotiated our Interval points and I think they deserve our thanks.

That's a fair exchange. I'm sure you know there is only a partial kitchen, little more than the DVC studios.

This is a good sign! We will have 316 points to trade out in summer of 2004, and are hoping for Hawaii, Cayman or Aruba (yes I know it's hot but since I teach it's that or Christmas) for a family of 5. After our trip next summer it will be time to figure THAT one out.

Aruba and HI will both be tough for a 2 BR and most timeshare are strict on their occupancy limits. You may need to look at 2 exchanges or a direct exchange to get that covered. Cayman may be a little easier as some of the choices are mostly 2 BR option I believe.

Hey, Congratulations!!!

We were actually waiting for this trade & got the call early this week!!! It was a week too late & we passed on it!! Glad to see another DIS'er got it!!! We'll be on Kauai the week before you!!

Hi - I'm new to all of this, just signed my closing papers a week ago for HH. How far in anvance did you have to deposit your points in order to trade them for February 2003? Just curious how this works.

You should plan at least a year in advance for most exchanges, preferably 2. You just tell them what you want and when and they will call you if they find it and then you get to say a final yes or no. Most exchanges are found at 2-6 months before your travel but you need to be looking earlier. You don't give up your points until they find something.

There is a separate deposit first which can be helfpul if you have point you will lose but with the new changes I'm not yet sure how that will work.

That is soooo exciting. I am hoping to trade to Hawaii in a few years and I was getting the impresssion that a trade to one of the Marriotts was going to be impossible.

Dean, can you comment further on what the 1 bedroom accomidations are like, i.e layout? Also, you mention that a 2 bedroom would be tough (I would rather have a 2 bedroom, even though there is only 4 of us). Does that mean there aren't many or the exchanges into them are fewer? Can you also tell me what the layout is like in a 2 bedroom. Thanks again Dean for all you wisdom!

Congrats!

I have been trying to trade into the Marriotts for two years now, no luck

They have great pools and beaches, even though they are converted hotel units without full kitchens and a bit small, the grounds are impressive.

Oh, and one last thing, are either the Maui or Kauai right on the water?

lampy, Thank you, I did check those out, bu can't seem to find a room layout for a 1 or 2 bedroom.

Thank you, Thank you, Lampy, that is exactly what I was looking for. Now, I still am wondering why Dean said that a 2 bedroom exchange is tuff.

Most HI and Caribbean resorts have many smaller units and a large portion of the larger (2 BR) units are lockoff's and can be used as 2 deposits. There are exceptions but it also tends to work out that those that have larger units that they won't deposit as multiple deposits don't deposit at all. They either use or rent them in many cases, as do many who own smaller units as well. The Maui and Kauai resorts for Marriott have few 2 BR and they are lockoff's. The new Kauai resort will have 2 BR non lockoff's. I think the new Oahu is 2 BR lockoff units only.
