I've mentioned this site before in another post... www.konaweb.com is an excellent resource for travelling to the Big Island of Hawaii. There are 2 forums there, too.

Our favorites are Kauai and the Big Island. Both have lots of variety, and both are more true "old Hawaiian". Maui is nice, but becoming a bit too comercial for us. Oahu is somewhere you want to spend a couple of days to see the historic sights there, but it is a big bad city with an overcrowded beach.

My preference is the Big Island, because it is the only place you can go to see active volcanos, and there is so much diversity. You can even snow ski on some of the peaks on the north side of the island.
