Ok, first of all, I am not working right now. I am staying home with the kids. When I worked I was on my feet all day and probably got 10,000 steps easily.

I have a treadmill and we go outside to walk. I walk between 2.5 and 3 miles and STILL can't get to the 10,000 steps per day.

Should I walk 2.5 miles twice a day? I don't think I can do 5 miles all at once.

I am not finding it easy.

10,000 is roughly 5 miles, so it is no wonder you are not making your target. I do a little under 1.5 miles two times a day with the dog and I do 2.7 miles at lunch, plus whatever incidental walking I do and I run three times a week as well. Now that it is getting warmer, plop the kids (well at elast teh littel one since I doubt the big ones would go for that!) in the stroller and walk a few times a day. It will be good for all of you! Take the kids to the park after school and let them play while you walk around it, play some tag. If you get them involved the miles will go faster.

Gotta love those pedometers!! Here's a few things i do to get in my steps:

1) I try to pick at least one, if not two or three, days each week where I elimate the car and walk my errunds. I have little kids too but I have a double jogger and make use of it like no ones busines!! We go to the grocery store, to the bank, drop off dry cleaning, etc.

2) If I do drive somewhere I make it a point to park as far away as possible from the front of that store so I have to walk far both coming and going

3) A family evening walk.....even if its only around the block it can add up to a couple hundred

4) walking around the house/yard....make it a game with the kids!

Good luck!

Wow, you do 5.7 miles of walking per day and then you run 3 times a week in addition to that?

Ok, well, then, I am way underachieving!
