Having to argue with Walmart

I thought I put in the Apple watch in my thread, where is my mind at? Maybe I did, but it didn't post?

This is a normal practice to list a different price online than instore and NOT have them price match. Its slimy and in the fine print, but technically they have the right to not honour it since the warehouse and the store inventory are different sources.
Some stores wont even let you order online and then pickup because the store gets left on the hook for the online warehouse order getting delivered to the store and then not being picked up , so that's merchandise "shrink".
This makes me laugh when I think of an old job I had at a bookstore prior to amazon being The Way to have things delivered. We would push so hard for home delivery/online ordering for a customer if it wasn't on the shelf and 99% of the time, this was not convenient or what they wanted, they wanted the book in their hands NOW. not "free shipping to your home in 2 business days" LOL

Offer, not list. And OP still hasn't clarified which model they ended up with for the $199. It's possible they owe Walmart $100.

Not going to apologize when they are in the wrong. Do you apologize or just accept it when some one or a bill you owe is wrong or overpriced? I don't. Whether is it something like this or a hospital bill, I mean really?

I remember once my husband went to purchase a firearm at Walmart and they proceeded to tell him he had to pay for a background check. He then pulls out his conceal carry permit showing them that no, that wasn't the case. They wouldn't have it. A few minutes late he spotted an in uniform cop and had the cop come over and tell them they were in the wrong and to sell him the gun. Wasn't about to let Walmart charge him for something they had no clue about.

They're both 3s - the $299 is for the cellular version. Did he purchase and bring home the miscoded $199 wifi version, or did he argue with Walmart employees long and hard enough to uni tdntionally (but successfully)wear them down enough that he got a huge discount on the cell version?

That large of a price difference I'm willing to bet it's exactly what other posters have mentioned that it was a different version you were initially look at for $199 and the one you found in store for $199 and the one priced at $299.

Wal-Mart (and other places) do have issues sometimes with prices not being listed accurately with what it rings up as and what the price listing is or your local Wal-Mart is selling something for a different price than online (Costco is always clear that warehouse pricing may differ)

BUT that large of a difference? Yeah that's probably an issue with knowing which version you were looking for. If so that might change your tune on your disgruntlement with Wal-Mart as it's possible you really shouldn't have gotten it for the $199 price.

It would be helpful, IMO, to know that.

Ya, it was the one without the cellular, but they tried to charge us for the one with it I guess.

But with the fire arms purchase, you would think they would only allow their most knowledgeable employees to do that, but they did not.

This! Walmart (and I'm guessing most retailers) do NOT have to price match their online prices to the price in store. The overhead costs, etc. are different for one thing.

Is the one you picked up in the store to have Wal-Mart ring up the wifi version or was it the cellular version?

Reason I ask is because you mentioned that you saw it in store on the same aisle as the other version. I would assume the two different versions have two different bar codes.

Either it's scanning entirely wrong in Wal-Mart's system or the one scanned was the cellular version that costs $299. The more I think about it the more I'm not sure this is even a price match issue since you said it was listed at the lower price in store as well unless by that you mean you used their mobile app rather than physically seeing the price tag in store also say $199. Sounds more like ensuring the correct version was scanned at the register though I could be on the wrong track. Double check what you actually purchased.

I don't understand. If the item was $299 in the store and $199 online why not just buy it online?

because then they wouldn't get to raise Cain and get the cell version for the price of the wifi version would be my guess.

I've tried to price match Walmart online price instore and they wouldn't do it. Or Maybe it was Target? Either way online price matching themselves isn't common.

And I'm guessing you got the cellular version of the watch for the price of the GPS version.

FYI price matching policies are often modified for specific dates related to holidays. Applicability and processes can change based on store policy and mode of purchase.
