Having the "we need more points" bug REALLY BAD!

I have bought and sold so much to be where we are at today. 900 points with 300 at each…RIV and VGF as our top two and SSR for SAP.

My newest job will keep us here for now because of the opportunities it will give me.

But, hey, I see RIV regularly dropping into the 70s, and could change. The good news is I don’t see that.

Hey everyone. LONG time lurker, but haven't posted much (and apparently I can't even get the cool pics in my signature until I post more so I thought I'd say what I've been thinking about DVC)...!

We got 300 points at OKW and absolutely love it (despite many people sort of dogging on OKW we just thought it was wonderful.) I can't wait until the boats are working again to DS as we remember riding boats from POFQ to DS and having a grand time years ago.

Well, you'd think that 300 points would suffice but NOPE; I find myself parusing the DVC resale sites almost daily and after maybe just a few weeks of "the bug", we've made an offer on AKV.

I'm crazy excited about it; we're in ROFR right now, so fingers crossed.

I'm curious about how many of you have stuck with your one initial contract vs getting a second (or third)?? Did you stick with the same UY (we did). How many points is enough?? (Subjective, I know, but I'm curious about what other people's takes are.) Thanks!!!

That's exciting! We currently have 3 contracts, all RIV, 2 direct 1 resale. I don't feel like it's enough (420 points) and would like to have double that at least. We have same UY and resort because I just like to easily be able to use and combine all my points, but over the years since we originally bought in 2010 at BLT, we have owned varying resorts and UY's. I could maybe see doing a different UY at a different resort once DH and I have more time to travel and our kids are on their own. Right now, we just always travel on school breaks so keep it simple with our March UY.

The August trip might make your addonitis happen faster but good for you for having some self control . I know when I originally came down to Orlando for an interview and stayed off-site I was like yeahhhh this is why we typically stay on property. . It's not like our hotel was bad, but forget about walking vs. monorail and etc. more important than any of that is just being in the bubble. Im probably brainwashed a good chunk by Disney but it hits a little bit different using on property transportation vs. parking at TTC and etc.

Oh believe me, I know!! My husband wanted to stay at Windsor Hills since my son and him will be at home a lot of the trip. We used to stay there pre DVC, so I know it isn't all bad...but something about crossing 192 now just brings me down.

Thankfully this trip is for Destination D23 so I'll be mainly at Coronado Springs versus park hopping.

But now that you mention it...I am due my bonus in August. Probably not the best time from a self control perspective to be going to Florida, lol.

Started in December 2023. Bought 4 contracts at 3 resorts for 660 points before ever actually staying DVC (just hotel side) because I couldn't choose a home resort lol. So we got BWV, BLT, and AKV.

Then my wife has family and friends in the LA area so when a great deal popped up for VGC a few months later I jumped on it even though it was a different use year.

Then late last summer they had great incentives for RIV so I bit the bullet and bought direct and got "double points" just before our SEP use year, sold back the 2023 points for MB, and got my blue card. We also did 2 favorite weeks and a smaller contract while we were already buying direct. And it seems like it was good timing because they haven't had ANY good direct deals since.

So now we have 1060 points (300 direct, 760 resale) at 5 resorts with 8 contracts and 2 use years. And I still check the aggregator sites almost daily lol

I’m not even buying and I still like to regularly check the aggregator to confirm my previous buys were good prices.

We have 740 points from 4 contracts all same use year. Two direct, two indirect. Added on immediately after our first stay at VGF
440 at VGF, 300 at AKL
We use AKL as SAP sometimes but love it too.
Started DVC when youngest 7, now he’s 18. Mostly renting out our points at this season of life

I hear that. One thing that makes it easier: always cross it at Sherberth/Entry Point. Somehow it is easier if I don't actually have to drive *on* it.

2. Bought different use years unfortunately because what I wanted wasn't available in my UY. Working to consolidate now.

OKW - one UY. All resale - I don't need a $15,000 discount card for a couple of trips (we rarely eat/drink the WDW edible substances and I have no need or space for more tourist tat). I'm planning for a big family holiday in 2028 (or later)

We started with 150 to dip toe in the water. Added another 210 a year later to get what I needed for the big family trip. Last year, saw a 230 contract with double points and thought that could be great for SAP if we think other resorts can trump OWK. I didn't need it so I just bid $64 and asked the seller to pay for the current year dues. I was surprised they accepted.

Did a 5 resort tour last year (using all those SAP) and realised that OKW was the right choice. Therefore sold the 210 contract knowing that I wouldn't need it.

No addonitus here. I know the exact number of points needed for the target holiday - 2 weeks, one 2 Bed villa and two Studios - banking and borrowing for the 3* multiplier (I know the rule isn't g'teed) . Once that's been had, I'll sell the 230 contract and think about maintaining the 150 for the odd break now and then.

The really important lesson is to use the average prices quoted by https://www.dvcresalemarket.com/ as a guide only and aim to pay 25% less. And don't be put off by shows such as My DVC Points telling you that these deals are wishful thinking. That's just bilge.

You can only consolidate by selling off the points in the use year you no longer want and rebuying.

Easy Peasy - April UY is for WDW in the Spring, June for Fall and Oct for early December- then Dec UY is Hilton Head Spring/Summer and Sept UY is Hilton Head Fall and Thanksgiving (every 3 years).

I think you just summarized UY for me. I have owned 8 years and bought the wrong UY. Back when I didn't understand, if I want to vacay in May, I need April. I have 2 June contracts (2nd was direct & they kept it the same) & always end up paying cash for rare fall trips! Thanks you for confirming my April need!
