Im slowly getting the hang of doing waitlist however theres one thing that

still has me confused

its there part where you can pick if you want the waitlist to expire in 31 days or 7 days

now if you run the risk of having the points put into holding and then having them expire why would you

pick to have the waitlist expire in 7 days

hope that makes sense--just wondering what the difference is

thanks

If you have a reservation booked and have a wait list for an equal or more expensive option, it's not a problem if the wait list fills 30 days or less from check-in. The points from the original reservation go into holding but all of those points are then applied to your wait list option. Therefore, it's "safe" to choose to have your wait list expire 7 days from check-in.

If you have a reservation and a wait list for a less expensive option and your wait list fills 30 days or less from check-in, you will have holding points left over. Unless you don't care that you might lose those excess holding points, you would choose the 31-day expiration option in this case.

If you just have a wait list and no existing reservation that will be be replaced, then you can choose the 7-day option since there is no risk of points going into holding.
