I made my ADRs 180 days out and got everything I thought I wanted. Now I'm having second thoughts about Boma. We were supposed to try it last year by dh's golfing ran late. I'm worried that it will be too adventurous for my in-laws and my kids. These are our ADRs so far:

Dinners:

Coral Reef Dinner (I know its gotten some bad reviews but kids want to eat there because they saw it on Full House)
Liberty Tree Tavern
Le Cellier
Chef Mickey
Ohana
Biergarten
Prime Time Cafe
Hollywood Brown Derby (FDP)
Cinderella's Royal Table
Boma

Lunches:

Sci-Fi
Plaza

Breakfast:

Ohana
Crystal Palace
Princess Story Book Breakfast

I'm so torn about whether to change Boma - maybe to Cape May Cafe, 1900 Park Fare or Garden Grill.

I'm also going back and forth on whether or not we should change CRT to breakfast or dinner.

Help!

You will like it . Thats the attraction of Boma it has something to please anyone from age 7 to 70! I was very cautious and avoided it at 1st too until my wife made me try it (Le Cellier too) Boy i could have kicked myself for what I was missing out on. they are now at the top of out must eat at list..Make sure you get some Mulligitany soup. (its the Best--as Banna said to Jerry in the 1 Seinfeld Soup nazi episode!) :rotfl2:

Aww, don't change Boma! I'm a really picky eater myself, and I loved the soups, meats and desserts! They have stuff there for the kids, too, my kids found plenty to eat.

I did CRT breakfast because that's when they give out the little swords and wands, and have the princesses. Lunch and dinner they have the mice and Fairy Godmother. Oh, but I see you also have the Princess Storybook Breakfast.........we liked that one very much too.

We love Coral Reef. We've been twice, and are going again. You can ask to wait to be seated right next to the tank. We plan to do that this time.

We were disappointed in LTT but a lot of folks love it.

Le Cellier and Chef Mickey's are two "must-dos" for us. We do CM every trip. We tried Le Cell for the first time this last trip, and it's a new fave! Be sure to order the chocolate moose for the kids!

We're trying O'hana for the first time this trip, can't stand German food so have never done Biergarten, and always wanted to do Prime Time but never time! Haven't done HBD or Plaza either.

We like Sci Fi....it's fun!

Crystal Palace is another must do for us.

You've got great ADRs!

Boma is one place we will not miss!!! I am NOT a buffet person, but Boma just has such good food and a huge variety. My DS12 is soooo picky, but requests Boma every trip. The food isn't too exotic or different, it's just a good mixing of spices (not hot) that all work so well with the food. I can't go without Boma for our Disney trips!!! Hope you try it!!! :thumbsup2

I think that BOMA'S is one of the best buffets in Disney. OUTSTANDING.

I love, love, love Boma! My kids are not adventurous and just eat off the kid's pod. My DS always says it is the best food - just plain American kid food! If your in-laws don't like the African food, they can always eat off the kids' pods.

There's enough of the less adventurous stuff that a plain food eater can have a nice meal. I wouldn't worry about it.

I will prob. be shot down, but we tried it on our last trip and really didn't like it. I won't be going back. I am a very picky eater and there wasn't much for me to eat. Everything was "strange". My son didn't like anything either. He is 9.

Just my two cents...

We loved Boma and there were so many different selections that I think everyone in your party would find something they liked. You definitely don't want to pass up the opportunity to have Zebra Domes:)

The first time we tried it, I wasn't thrilled...but it was one of my first experiences with incredibly expensive buffet dining without a DDE yet ;) .

The second time? LOVED it!!! DH is not especially adventurous with food - he loves prime rib and potatoes and such and he did enjoy Boma. There is plenty to eat even on the kids buffet that many adults like as well - mac and cheese, chicken, pasta, french fries, etc. And on the regular buffet there is chicken, prime rib, potatoes, veggies, salads...chocolate chip cookies even. Very normal.

But if you want to try something fantastic, experiment a little. And don't forget the zebra domes!!

And even if all it is, is a high priced plate of mac and cheese, chicken fingers and pizza...well...spend some time exploring the resort and looking at the animals and it's more than worth it.

I will be in the minority here. Our group of five tried it- DH, DS-13, niece- 22, niece -8 and myself. I had heard so many wonderful things about Boma and wanted to finally try it. I was the most adventurous of the group and I thought it was "interesting". I enjoyed the unusual tastes and would like to go back again sometime, but for me, it is not a "must return every trip" restaurant. The rest of my family would definitley not return. I prepared them ahead of time that the food would be different and to have an open mind. It is not like they are not used to dining at nice ethnic restaurants. We love Thai, French, Japanese, Italian, and Chinese restaurants and dine out frequently. Unfortunately, they really did not like the food. They tried small amounts of the African featured dishes try. They left most of it on their plates and went to the childrens food station which they enjoyed. Unfortuantely, DH stated he will not return to pay the cost of the buffet to eat the simply prepared children's food. He will save the money and go to a counter service! Bottom line, if you truly have picky eaters (I know my parents would not enjoy the food at Bomas) think twice about it if there is another favorite restaurant that is getting the boot in favor of Boma. If not, give it a try. So many people do enjoy it and you won't know if you fit into that category until you try it. I'm glad we did because now we know. Good luck.

Most people like Boma, so the odds are so will your family. My family loves Boma and we took my in-laws there last Thanksgiving. They are picky eaters (meat and potato people) and I was apprehensive, but they loved it.

I say take a chance.

basketrn, i have to agree w/you. however, i am glad we tried it,but was not wowed enough by it to make a special trip to AKL just to dine there. there were 4 disney dining vets in the party and none of us was "blown away." now, on the other hand, i will make every effort to get there to dine at jiko. one of our favorites! :duck:

We just got back yesterday from AKL. I have to say Boma was our most favorite resturaunt of the whole trip and myself and my daughter are very picky eaters. Don't change your ressie you will love it. If you have never been to AKL you should go early and check out the resort. It is the best. We talked to one of the people who works in the resort and he told us that Boma is acually voted number one buffet in the country. So don't miss it!!!

Stick with Boma. Worst case scenario: You leave without eating much and get popcorn and Coke to fill up.:earsboy:

I would try it at least once for the experience. We ate there last year after reading so many rave reviews here, and we really enjoyed it. It wasn't our most favorite restaurant out of all the restaurants at which we ate, but it we liked it very much.

I'm not a terribly picky eater, but can be choosy, & there are many foods I won't eat. However, I found plenty to eat to Boma. Steak (prime rib, if I'm remembering correctly) & roasted potatoes were on the buffet as well as some other traditional selections. The salads were really good as well as the soups. There were many different kinds of bread too. I also tried some African dishes - some I liked, some I didn't - but it was very fun to try. The desserts were scrumptious - I fell in love w/ the Zebra Domes! We ordered a pressed pot of African roast coffee w/ our desserts - soooo good, but, then, we're huge coffee drinkers.

And the kids (who are picky!) had plenty to eat as well - chicken fingers, mac & cheese, pizzas. And they loved all the fruit selections - huge strawberries!

Boma was the perfect ending to our day at AK. We got there early & walked around the AKL - what a gorgeous resort! The kids loved seeing the animals roam around the savannah. And the AKL CM's are super-friendly!

I wish we could work Boma into our schedule this year! DH has wanted to try San Angel Inn in EPCOT since we were there for our Senior Trip in 1991. Our AK day is also "Father's Day", so I have an ADR for San Angel Inn, otherwise, we'd be back at Boma. (Our EPCOT day, we have an ADR for Garden Grill.)

Regarding CRT, we currently have a lunch CRT. We did breakfast last year, and we wanted to try a different meal in the castle this year. I chose lunch since the princesses are still there for lunch - this was before I knew about the wands & swords, so I'm glad I went w/ lunch - I hope they're still doing the wands & swords in June! pixiedust:

EDITED TO ADD - - It is a buffet, and, last year, I think we did too many buffets - w/ kids, it quickly got tiresome getting up & down. And Boma can be a crowded buffet (although it is set up in "pods"), so, if your in-laws would be more comfortable or find a full-service, sit-down restaurant easier, that might be something for you to consider as you make your decision.

:thumbsup2 Le Cellier was one of our favorite meals!!!!! The breadsticks, soup and maple creme brulee were to die for.

 We are not fussy eaters, but I have to say Boma was a HUGE disappointment. The quality of food was poor, quantity does not mean quality.

:thumbsup2 Another one of our favorites for a special occasion is California Grill.

Dont change BOMA. Although I didn't rave about it. It was good. It just didn't live up to all the hype. There were some different things being served that I tried that were good. And there was more than enough "normal" things to keep us all happy and full. It was a very nice experience that I was glad we did. I would keep it and go. You will like it.

I think you should try it. If you don't like it, you don't have to go back, but at least you'll have done something different.

DH and I love Boma. I'm a picky eater, but I enjoy trying the new stuff. If I don't like something, I can get plenty of other things to try. We took my mom there for the first time last fall. She doesn't like buffets at all, and she really liked it and liked trying the different things.

Also not a fan. Didn't live up the the hype. We aren't picky eaters either - and like adventurous food.

I will have to say that there is plenty to eat for the non-adventurous...it just wasn't very good (Disney Ron sums it up - quanitity does not equal quality). It was fairly good for a buffet (though we liked Biergarten better) and it was certainly better than the quality at Old Country Buffet!

I wouldn't go out of my way for it (though I would go out of my way if you've never seen AKL - that is worth a peek!)
