Okay I admit it i don't know what i was thinking but i have'nt EVER taken a vitimin since i started my weight loss journey in Jan. Now it's taken some time to catch up with me. My hair started coming out in hand fulls esp. during washing. So after a few weeks of this i realized i needed to talk to my dr. He recommended i take a good multi vitiamin and add more protien to my diet. Well after three weeks now the hair loss is slowly slowing down some and a new problem has come about. Consipation! I was talking with my pm buddy last night and she thought maybe i needed to switch to a low iron vitimin can anyone recommend one to me. When i do get a chance to get into a store to buy something i'm not gonna have time to stand and read labels. Can you tell me what you take and when you take it. (morning ,night ect.) Thanks

I take a One a Day vitamin ---I chose the Women's formula for the extra Vit D and calcium.

As for the iron causing it....highly unlikely unless you are specifically taking an iron supplement (like SlowFe) The amount of iron in multivitamins isn't usually enough to cause constipation (same goes for the iron in baby formula, but many switch to low iron b/c their babies are constipated)

My cure for constipation.....some prunes! ;)

I like one day for woman..weight loss formula. A nice supplement...not overloaded with vitamins.

I'm thinking that you probably need to add fiber to your diet if you're constipated. You may want to consider a fiber supplement that has psyllium husk in it, or Metamucil, etc.

I take a vitamin that's not sold in stores, but I have heard good things about the Costco-brand vitamins. One of my friends who is a pharmacist likes Centrum.

WE were told to take Biotin for hair loss(well to help prevent it) after GBS and so far it's working on me!
But make sure that you take your multivitamin, calcium, iron on a regular basis and I have learned to not forget the fiber either!

You may also want to consider taking flax oil capsules. Very heart healthy and I've heard it is great for your skin/scalp also.

Well maybe i was totally clear in my post. I was at work and trying not to take to long to post that. My biggest problem is the hair loss issue to combat that i started taking a vitimin the vitamin (i believe) has cause somewhat of an issue with the constipation. Nothing MAJOR but my body is not moving things like it was before the vitamins. Did you guys follow all that?LOL I will chekc in to the Biotin. Where can that be purchased btw? I was thinking it was the iron content in my vitamins causing things to slow up. So that's why i was asking for a new vitamin recommendation with low iron supplement in it. Thanks to everyone for responsing to my query.

Thanks for asking this question, Tammy. It is something that I needed to know also. I have never taken a multi-vitamin in the past, but know I should be doing this now. I have also been experiencing some hair loss, but I think mine is due to menopausal issues, since it was happening before I started to diet also.

Sparkly Zoe: What is Biotin? Is this something you can get otc?
