Having Problem with Car, any ideas on what it could be?

We are borrowing my mom's 99' Camry today for some reason we left my work and the speeddometer was out of control. Every so often it would sky rocket up and down and then stay on like 80 when we were no where near 80, then drop to 0. It also felt like a small jerking motion a few times. The RPM's are not going up very high just the speedometer and the minor jerking, it's not very loud. Any ideas? It's an automatic. The only thing different recently was the hurricane and it sat with driving rains for 48+ hours... nothing else out of the ordinary.

Hhhhhmmmmmmmm....sounds like your speedometer is wacky.

Same thing happened to my mom's Taurus. I can't remember what happened to it, but my dad (a mechanic) fixed it. There was no hurricane!

Sounds like the vehicle speed sensor.
Or a turbine speed sensor

Well of course my speedometer is wacky... Anyone?
It also jerks a bit or sticks hard to describe but not only when I'm accelerating.

I had that problem on a couple of cars. I think it was electrical/computer parts and/or the alternator.
