Having Computer Problems, NEED HELP BAD!!

I just got a brand new computer. Windows XP. I also ditched my AOL dial up service and got Comcast Cable. This is where the nightmare begins.

The cable works, yet I get SO MANY pop-ups and adware that I cannot hardly function on the computer. The computer came with 3 months of Norton Virus Scan. When I try to add any number of pop-up blockers (one provided by my cable company and another I got off the net), I cannot access the internet. I decided to add a firewall. First I did ZoneLabs. That worked but the "warnings" were so numerous I couldn't even surf the net. I just went out and bought the Norton Internet Security Suite. Got it installed. Now I'm not getting pop-ups or adds and I have a firewell. But now I cannot access the internet. So, I just removed it. Doing so also removed the *free* Norton I had. So here I am sitting out here on the net with not firewall, not virus protection, etc. Oh, my internet is running fine. I just don't know what to do now. It was so easy with AOL. NOTHING like this happened. What can I do and what is wrong. Wahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

First, CONGRATULATIONS on moving away from AOL! This is a *good* thing!

Next, visit this thread on the Tech Support Board. It's stuck at the top of the forum, and talks about viruses, trojans, pop ups, firewalls... Lots of good info and recommendations for exactly what you're going through!
