Ack! Where were you last month for DD's party?? :goodvibes Great link!

At DD13's bday party last month, we served pineapple chunks with warm caramel dip a la 'Ohana - HUGE hit with everyone!! :cloud9: I just stuck an hor 'dourves toothpick on the top of each chunk.

I cheated ;) They have plastic containers of caramel in the produce section at the grocery store. You just throw the container in the micro to warm it up. There's also chocolate sauce, strawberry cream cheese sauce (though I do prefer to make that homemade!), and something else I can't remember. They're good for apples too :)

PS Strange thing FIL discovered - if you dip a Dorito in the caramel sauce, it kind of tastes like Twix :confused3

:teeth:

I am so pathetic. :guilty: ( ;) ) I am planning my son's HS graduation party for NEXT June. It will be a Tiki Survival themed graduation party. We're hoping to do a pig roast.

I spent 2 months scouring the web for recipes, party decorations, etc.

My son has been watching me do all of this (and buy tons of stuff!) and says to me, "Well, you sure are optimistic that I'll graduate, huh?" :faint:

He's just teasing....... I think! :rolleyes1

We went to one a month ago and it was a blast. She had a huge fruit bar, loaded cut up watermelon, strawberries, pineapples, etc. She also made smoothies for drinks. For the meal, she had a pig , BBQ chicken, hot dogs, cole slaw, baked beans, and corn bread. She had the kids making their own lei's (that was a huge hit). They even had luau dancers and limbo contests. Prizes for the best costume, etc. Go for it! We had a blast.

Marth'a Stewart show yesterday was ALL about having a luau at home. There was some REALLY cute stuff on there...

go to www.marthastewart.com then click on Martha's show link on the left banner and then go to Thursday's show and you should find your way from there....some good ideas that I wrote down for future reference myself! Good luck and it sounds like fun!

my cousin has a luau themed grad party they had caramelized pineapple which was so good. they also made a fried rice dish with vegetables.

Speaking of the grad parties, I saved all the decorations I bought for DD's party and am seriously thinking of having a big graduation party next year when I graduate from nursing school  Never had a grad party when I grad high school due to family stuff  and it would be so nice to have one next year, just to celebrate and have fun. Tacky??? I wouldn't expect/want any gifts, so I'd put no gifts on the invite or something - maybe ask that they make a donation of some sort if they really want to do a gift. Any thoughts?

I had a large luau party for a family/couples wedding shower.

I served lots of fresh fruit sprinkled with shredded coconut. Fruit is always BIG!
One thing I found after tons of research is potato mac salad.
I also served sweet and sour tiny sausages with pineapple. These disappeared.
You already have chicken but I did make a very east garlicy flavored chicken called Shoyu Chicken. Did it in the crock pot.
Hawaiin cole slaw. Bascially, cole slaw with pineapple in it.
Cabbage Rolls with a rice and beef stuffing. Rice, fried and about any type, is VERY popular in Hawaii.
oo....if there are any seafood lovers, I made a hot seafood and potato salad that went quickly also.

I have many more things I did if you want to know, PM me...I also have links I could send you to a few other sites that might help with recipes, etc.

I don't now if theis is really Hawaian, but a friend brought a dish that was delicious to our Fourth of July parade party. She just took pineapple chunks and wrapped a piece of bacon around them (held together with a toothpick). She put them in the oven and baked/broiled them until the baon crisped up. They went fast!
