Just read the ObamaCare thread on the budget board. I know our system in Australia isn't perfect, but gee I'm grateful for what we have.

Not being political or anything like that. Just needed to say it somewhere and I thought here might be ok

And I'm sure NZ have a social health program like Australia too, but I'm not 100% on that.
 
Wow, so many pages. I didn't read them all, but the common talk seemed to be around people not happy with how much they have to pay to support the 'poor or lazy'. Makes me wonder about our own system becoming more and more privatised...the less that comes from taxes, and the more that is paid out of pocket just to private health insurance (rather than to a big pool of 'tax' that pays for all sorts of things) the more direct the connection of 'I earn more, therefore I pay more, therefore I'm supporting people who are a drain on the system...' thinking becomes. I would hope that wouldn't happen here.
 
Trying very hard not to become political in this post, but I completely agree! I love our government health care. I would happily have my taxes go towards this compared to many other places.
